Does honda have fully synthetic oils? How much for an oil change?

I drive a lot (3000 miles/month) and i want to save time changing the oil for my civic lx. i always take it to honda for a change of oil and filter, but would you think Honda has a fully synthetic one like Mobil 1? And how much do you think it would cost me? thanks!Does honda have fully synthetic oils? How much for an oil change?here's what you do. if you have an oil change place do the work, specify 4 qts. 10W30 VALVOLINE FULL SYNTHETIC, SEMI SYNTHETIC, or even standard motor oil, 1 qt. DURALUBE (an oil additive which coats all your moving parts in your engine, keeps the oil from breaking down and heating up, and extends the original mfg warrenty an extra 100,000 miles) VERY GOOD STUFF FOR YOUR ENGINE AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT, 1- BOSCH premium oil filter. bosch is, by far, the best filter. once you start using valvoline oil in your engine, stick with valvoline. it's not recommended that you keep switching brands of oils for the same engine. and also, the duralube is to be used every 4 oil changes. this engine will last a lifetime if you do this, and keep up the maintenance of your car. i do need to warn you that this is not a cheap oil change, but isn't your engine worth it? if you purchase the parts yourself, and using the standard valvoline oil (which, btw is ok when using the duralube) its going to be about $3.35/ qt. bosch filter about $6.00 and 1 qt duralube about $20.00/ qtDoes honda have fully synthetic oils? How much for an oil change?Yes they offer synthetic oil. You should go to an independent place, not the dealer. They will charge you like $40 for an oil change, an independent place charges like $25. Don't believe all the BS they offer with the oil change. It's a bunch of %26quot;inspects%26quot;...like inspect tires, inspect fluids. Basically just %26quot;looking%26quot; at your tires and fluids. Ohh big wow. Definitely not worth $20 extra dollars.Does honda have fully synthetic oils? How much for an oil change?Honda does have full synthetic oil. You will pay an additional

$20.00 more on top of the regular oil and filter change price.

How much would it cost for a complete oil-filter & transmission fluid change on a Porsche boxster S?

Considering i will be using mobil 1. Also, does any good oil change shop do this job on my Porsche or just a porsche specialized shops ?How much would it cost for a complete oil-filter %26amp; transmission fluid change on a Porsche boxster S?Personally, I do all my changes myself, so my prices are a bit off.

Simple stuff like this can be done at any shop. Its very basic work. Porsches tend to take a rather silly amount of oil (granted the oil needs to be changed every ~15k miles or so, so its not half bad!). the 3.4L 996 engine used 9.25!!! quarts of oil. My GT2 takes about 13!!!!!!! Oil changes are pretty expensive on these cars simply because of that. The oil filters are also very expensive (about 15 bucks a pop).

the 250-300 dollar mark sounds about right for this and a tranny flush.

after you get your tranny fluid swapped when you first get the car (always a good idea), you really shuoldnt have to do it again. Use a good synthetic gear oil too. Doing it every oil change is just a waste of cash.

Based on what paul S said, maybe you do want to bring it to a porsche mechanic. Theyre pretty easy to find. contact your local PCA and theyll be more than happy to point you to a good one.

also: heres a tip: Most dealers WILL drop the price on parts/labor/whatever if you just ask. Seriously. Also many give discounts to porsche club of america members (my dealer is 10%). All I have to do is just ask them what i can get the part for vs the MSRP of it, and they usually drop a huge chunk off. Dont get oil changes done at a dealer though. They charge you like 250 bucks for a freakin oil change.

hey PaulS: could I get your email address? If you dont wanna post it on here, email it to me at Phanofmuzik@gmail.com.How much would it cost for a complete oil-filter %26amp; transmission fluid change on a Porsche boxster S?As for pricing, ~$300 sounds right. Some shops may be a little more or a little less. There will be options for a good bit less, but not at a shop with experienced Porsche mechanics. And considering that I've seen non-Porsche mechanics struggle to just figure out how to get to the engine on a Boxster, I would be inclined to stick to people that know the car.

For the newer watercooled car, the dealerships can be good options. They do know the new cars and generally provide good if not great service. However, be it a dealer or an indpendent shop, do a little research as skill and service can vary quite a bit (I know here in the SF Bay area, there are a few dealers I would happily trust one of the newer cars to, while there are others I wouldn't go near).

A private Porsche specialist can provide the best option (especially with the older air cooled models), but can be harder to locate and many of the best have considerable waits for appointment time.

You may want to look into your local Porsche Club Of America region for recommendations to local mechanics. How much would it cost for a complete oil-filter %26amp; transmission fluid change on a Porsche boxster S?Depends upon where you get it done. Any reputable mechanic with a transmission flush machine will do both for about $125 - $200. If you take it to the dealership, about $200 - $400.

How Often should I change/inspect my oil and air filter?

I have an '05 crf150f. Whats the process in cleaning/washing a filter or is it even ok for it to be sticky? How often should I actually replace it? as well as the oil... Thanks. How Often should I change/inspect my oil and air filter?your manual will tell you your maintenance interval's, your air filter has filter oil on it which catches fine dust particles and sand, the stickier the better, If you wash your air filter which is common make sure you buy some air filter oil and squeeze it in thoroughly..How Often should I change/inspect my oil and air filter? There is not one standard oil made or sold in this country that is warrantied by the oil manufactor for more than 3000 miles. Not one. On every one of my vehicles, that I run standard oil-ie not synthetic but 10w30,40 etc $2.00 a quart stuff in I change the oil every 3000 miles or sooner on my motorcycles. On the bikes it is every 2500 miles. Now as to the filter-I recommend changing it with every oil change. Most paper filters for oil will start to break apart and I have seen first hand the results of not changing the $5 filter-a clogged oil pump and then a $1000 top end and main bearing job. Spend $12 and get the oil and filter and change it every 2500 miles. You will not have problems with your engine ever. One more thing to check-most motorcycles have a oil screen that can be removed periodically. On most it is located at the bottom of the engine, usually toward the rear. Some it is under the chain/drive shaft area on the left side, other bikes it is on the right side. It will look like a bolt head and is usually next to a engine/frame bolt. Remove it and periodically clean the screen from the metal shavings and paper from filters that can accumulate on it. Your engine will thank you if it has one.

The filter is another area-stock filters are okay-not great. They are more restrictive than foam filters for getting air thru. If you can change it to K%26amp;N or the other brand. Yes you will have to oil the filter and clean it periodically, but you will never have to replace it again. Your engine will have more air to work with and more air usually means more horsepower. We are not talking turning your bike into a rocket here, but you should notice a subtle power difference. How Often should I change/inspect my oil and air filter?Oil lasts a lot longer these days than it used to. It doesn't break down as fast as it used to, but it still gets just as dirty. So instead of changing your oil every 3000 mi. and your filter every other time, you change your oil ever 5000 mi. and put in a new filter each time. On a 150 you might consider 4000 mi. because a smaller engine works harder. Also trips are shorter so the engine runs cold more.

With the air filter it depends on what kind of air filter you have, and how quickly it gets dirty. Keep an eye on it. The paper kind, you can smack it on the ground a few times and lots of stuff falls off it. The foam kind you can wash out, you can see when it needs it. If it's a foam filter then yes, its supposed to be sticky! How Often should I change/inspect my oil and air filter?I do mine every 2500 miles.

How to change oil on 2002 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R (J3)?

It's more of an open-ended question. I have my vin, but can't seem to yahoo or google what I need. What grade oil and filter do I need for my bike? How much oil (about 4 qts)?? Any special steps I should know or a website that will guide me. I found one for my Harley, but I'm new to the sportbike world and would like to save some money. Thanks!!How to change oil on 2002 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R (J3)?There should be a sticker on the gas tank. when you remove the seat it should be visible but it will tell you what oil and capacity. I used 10W40 during the cold months and 20W50 during the warmer months. the heat of summer makes the oil thinner so you want to run the heavier thicker oil so it doesn't thin out as much. During colder months the oil is thicker and takes longer to heat up and lube well so you run the thinner oil to counter that.

The drain plug should take a 11/16 socket. I think. Anyhow you'll see a bolt that doesn't hold anything in. It's located on the left side close to where the kick stand connects to the bike. Righty tighty, lefty loosie! drain it into a pan then plug it back up.

You should change your oil filter EVERY oil change. I've seen the ridiculous advice of doing it every other oil change. you need to change your oil filter every oil change. Just remember to put some fresh oil onto the rubber gasket around the top of the new filter and pour a few cap full of oil into the center chamber of the filter. This way there is already oil in there ready to be filtered. Otherwise when you start, the bike will be starving for oil for a few seconds until it can pump some through there and get it circulated. It is impossible to remove the filter without getting some oil on the pipes. Just clean it off with a dry rag and expect a little burn off when you start riding.

Seeing how it's June and all I'd recommend the 20W50. Get 4 quarts because your bike probably take about 3.5. The way you can find out it to put 3 in. It definitely takes 3 or more quarts. After three, have a buddy stand the bike straight up and you check the gauge. There should be a circular window on the engine cover. there will be a high fill and low fill line. The oil level should be right in the middle of the two lines. If you only have one line, then fill it to that line. Start it and let it run for a few, then shut it off and check the fill line again. Fill accordingly.

that's it!How to change oil on 2002 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R (J3)?If you go to youtube you can probably find a video of anything your triing to do. There are video's with step by step instructions. Other wise buy a manual its a smart investment.

  • What are the symptoms of dirty oil filter and does it make sense to change the engine oil?

without changing the oil filter ? but the more important question to me is how does a dirty oil filter affect the car. thanksWhat are the symptoms of dirty oil filter and does it make sense to change the engine oil?Change the filter every time you change the oil. Oil filters aren't expensive and are cheap insurance over more costly repairs if you don't change them and they fail as a result.

Most oil filters have a %26quot;bypass%26quot; valve on them so that in the event the filter element clogs completely, the oil will bypass the filter element entirely to make sure your engine gets oil. Dirty, unfiltered oil is better than no oil at all in the short term, but over time if the filter is just bypassing instead of filtering, you're going to have increased wear to your engine as a result. What are the symptoms of dirty oil filter and does it make sense to change the engine oil?Dirty oil filters will clog oil flow and spread gunk around the engine. You should change the filter with every oil change and only use synthetic oil. Synthetic costs more but your engine will run for a lot longer and need a lot fewer repairs. It pays off in the long run, big time. What are the symptoms of dirty oil filter and does it make sense to change the engine oil?it keeps the oil clean, if you don't it will shorten the life of the motor. What are the symptoms of dirty oil filter and does it make sense to change the engine oil?Well the filter takes some impurities out of the oil but your oil still breaks down over time. Oil filterss only last a certain amount of time so not changing your oil or filter could damage your engine over time. What are the symptoms of dirty oil filter and does it make sense to change the engine oil?why would you not change the oil filter. its like 3 bucks. change it every time you change the oil. What are the symptoms of dirty oil filter and does it make sense to change the engine oil?If your main question is does it make sense to change the oil, with out changing the filter, then no. The clean oil you just put into your motor is going throw a clogged up dirty filter giving you poor oil flow, and pushing dirty oil from the filter into the engine blcok. Which could lead to poor lubrication of the cylinder walls causing friction and eventually ruining your engine, along with numerous smaller problems. What are the symptoms of dirty oil filter and does it make sense to change the engine oil?you need to read the owners manuel and gheez use some common sense change the oil install synthic oil and an fram filter for gosh sakes think will you please you do it every 3000 to 5000 miles and you do the filter also at that time its like taking a bath you dont just do behind you , you do all of you good luckWhat are the symptoms of dirty oil filter and does it make sense to change the engine oil?The big risk is of it clogging. If it clogs, the oil won't circulate as it should. Aside from that, in most cars the filter holds a significant amount of oil, or at least enough to taint the new oil that you're putting in. It's very difficult to get all of the oil out when doing an oil change, not changing the filter just leaves that much more dirty oil in the engine. I'd spend the three bucks. What are the symptoms of dirty oil filter and does it make sense to change the engine oil?YES CHANGE THE OIL!!!!!!!!!! Gees lady, the car will smell like burned oil, there will be spots where youve parked. The motor will run down fast with dirty oil. The filter will clog. The oil AND oil filter have to bve changed every 3,000 miles. It only cost about 12$ to purchase the oil and filter.Or else take it to a oil changing station and they will do it for about 25$ or less. Also, you must make sure your car has water %26amp;or coolant in its radiator or else the motor will blow today! What are the symptoms of dirty oil filter and does it make sense to change the engine oil?Your question is not clear but,I think you are asking about changing oil without the filter.Imagine taking a bath in dirty bath water. Some filters hold a qt of oil.So by not changing it you have added 1 qt of dirty oil to your new oil....yuck.....whats the point. And the old filter is full of gunk and particles and not as free flowing as a new one.Is does not make sense. In theory you could skip changing the filter 2-3 times before it failed but, what is the point??????What are the symptoms of dirty oil filter and does it make sense to change the engine oil?You should change the oil filter on each oil change. But it is not imperative. All modern oil filters have a bypass that allows the oil to flow if the filter becomes clogged. Your oil will get dirtier quicker because the debris (microscopic level) are not being filtered. how quick depends on the condition of your engine, driving habits, driving conditions, etc.

There was a time when folks changed their oil filter every other oil change. Oil filters are so cheap that it makes little sense not to change them when changing the oil. Sort of like taking a shower and putting on dirty clothes. What are the symptoms of dirty oil filter and does it make sense to change the engine oil?you should always change the oil and filter together it would be like taking bath and putting on the same dirty socks.... you should change the oil every 3000 or so miles the more offen the better.... a oil change worth 25 buck but a motor or new car is 1000's you decide.. the oil filter does what it sound like it filters the oil it removes the medal particles which harms your motor .. and really no symptoms other than your motor stops workingWhat are the symptoms of dirty oil filter and does it make sense to change the engine oil?a dirty oil filter can affect your car in many ways and cause it to lock up youre best bet is to change oil and filter every three thousand miles

How often do you change the oil filter on 2004 ezgo golf cart?

I don't have the manual and I change the spark plugs, fuel filter, and air filter annually. How often do you change the oil filter on 2004 ezgo golf cart? The oil filter is designed to be cleaned, not changed, on an annual basis, although you can order the part from EZ-Go if you decide to change it instead. There are 3 bolts that hold the filter in place. When you remove the filter, the oil drains out of that hole. The filter is then cleaned with solvent. Do not use water. It should be cleaned every year at the same time you change the plugs and fuel filter. You should also be changing the oil at this time. Don't forget about changing the air filter, as well. I would also suggest buying the manual from EZ-Go.How often do you change the oil filter on 2004 ezgo golf cart?Parts manuals and service manuals for your E-Z-GO vehicle can be ordered factory-direct by calling 888-438-3946.

To ensure that you receive correct manuals, the serial number and manufacturing code of your vehicle is required when calling. These numbers can be found on a plate usually mounted in the dash area on the passenger side of your vehicle.

How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?

i want to chagne the oil filter but i thought that when you take the oil filter off the oil starts to spill out??How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil? There is oil in the filter and that oil will spill when you remove it.Usually it is a good idea to change the oil and filter together. If you just change the filter, you will need to replace the oil that you remove with the filter.

Change the filter, start the car, and then turn off the engine. Wait a few minutes and check to oil level. Add oil as needed, you will most likely need to add up to a quart. How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?You can't!How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?collect the oil in a container, the re-add it after you install the new filter. How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?yes you can. You need a car jig. It connects to the car, you then rotate the car upside down and remove the filter. total cost 3K time 5 hours. How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?You will spill some from what is in the filter but the rest of the oil will stay in the engine. The filter will either hold 1/2 quart or at most a quart. How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?I concur with Michael S and Fire4511. Once your engine is off the oil pump stops working. Thereby you may unscrew the oil filter and replace it. Oil won't be gushing out like water thru a broken tap. The oil contained in the filter is all you'd lose. As prev stated, run your engine, switch off and check the oil level. Top up as required. How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?Just warm up your car. shut it off, remove the filter (it'll spill a little), wipe off the filter mating area on the block, pour some new oil into your new filter (it'll soak up into the fibers) until you can see that it's not being absorbed, put a dab of oil around the rubber ring, screw the filter on, start engine, top off oil as necessary.

The important thing is to add the oil to the filter before installing the filter. How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?the only oil that will leak out is what,s in the filter. the most of the oil stays in the oil pan. just go ahead and change the filter then finish filling it back up.you probably won,t loose anymore then a quart.

So far as the price of an oil filter, it depends. Price varies depending on quality, and even on how popular the brand happens to be. I usually only pay 5 to 8 dollars US for my filters, though.

Adding new oil without changing out the old isn't bad, exactly. It will even prevent catastrophic failure like your engine seizing up if there is a small oil leak and your car is running low.

The heat from your engine will cause the oil to break down, however. That, along with minute metal shavings and other dirt like carbon deposits, eventually build up in the oil. This causes your oil to become thick and to form a paste. This thickening oil will cause friction and increased wear, reducing your mileage and increasing the chance of needing a major repair due to something wearing out.

Have your oil changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. It is the cheapest way to extend the life of your car and increase gas mileage. This saves you money in the long run.

How to change the oil and clean the air filter on a 1999 ford fiesta?

im 17 don't no loads about cars, its my mums car bought it a wile ago it wasn't looked after AT ALL. its done 68,000 miles and i don't think its had a service at all and at the moment cant afford it so thought i would do it myself but don't know what tools i need and how to do the job.How to change the oil and clean the air filter on a 1999 ford fiesta?Don't know particularly for a fiesta but ...

As its over three years old it should be MOT'd every year (or VOSA) usually serviced and MOT'd together, otherwise its illegal to drive and the ANPR cameras will flag you up every time

Usually replace the air filter, can get from halfords, or ebay or local motor factor, whatever you do don't remove it and run the engine without one, it will be great for a while then B*** expensive to repair.

Some you can clean by washing with petrol, but they are usually paper and that would destroy it, if its a cloth sort of thing then washing with petrol is the usuall way, but let it dry out before you try running it.

Usually follow the air intake pipes and you'll come to a plastic box that holds the air filter, sometimes held closed by spring clips or screws. Air intake is other side of engine from exhaust.

If its misfiring, could be that or spark plugs, you can remove and clean them, or replace them. You will need a set of feeler guages to re-set the gaps and a plug wrench to remove/ replace them.

For the oil change - no point unless you also replace the oil filter, just keep it topped up, but on no account overfill or you end up bowing the end gaskets.

To change the oil you need it up on ramps, or over a pit, or on a lift, or jack it onto axel stands. There should be a bolt (or maybe a plug with a hex socket) on the very bottom of the engine, removing this will let the oil out. This should be done with the engine hot to get best drainage. The oil filter should be somewhere on the side of the engine, looks vaguely like a coke can but with a rounded bottom, sometimes a hex nut on the bottom, sometimes you need a filter wrench to remove them. Some have a heavy casing and you replace an insert, some are lighter (cartridge filter) and you just unscrew and screw in a new one. Always use the new seals that come with the filter., sometimes you need to scrape the old seals off, but usually not to hard.

The local tech colleges used to do a motor maintenance evening classes that cost next to nothing and will give you enough nonce to not get screwed by the garage recommending unnecessary or inappropriate repairs.

Another good tip is to go to the local motor factors and blag your way as trade, get name and address of local back street garage and say they asked you to pick up the parts. I got 45 quid oil (0w30) for 13 quid etc...

Woops, bit long of an answerHow to change the oil and clean the air filter on a 1999 ford fiesta?change the oil- locate the sump (wide lump of metal under the engine) and find the sump plug (it kinda looks like a bolt) remove the plug and have a container ready to catch the oil as it comes out (its a messy job be careful) and then put the sump plug back in. pour new oil into the top of the engine ( a yellow ring attached to a top of a tube) funnels are very handy for doing this

clean the air filter- not possible, get a new one there are probably a few screws to remove etc don't try to clean it this wont make a difference

spark plugs are another thing you could need to change- you may need a special attachment to put on a ratchet just screw them out and screw in the new ones

all the above stuff should cost not as much as a service in a garage mabye 20-40 quidHow to change the oil and clean the air filter on a 1999 ford fiesta?with your level of knowledge don't do it yourself you will be asking for trouble get someone to recommend a mechanic and take it thereHow to change the oil and clean the air filter on a 1999 ford fiesta?get a pan that can hold a gallon of oil and a adjustable wrench, jack front of car up and put a jack stand under frame then looking under the car you will see a bolt head on the oil pan adjust wrench to fit the bolt head and turn it counter clockwise to un-loosen bolt.put underneath the bolt and take bolt out, quickly move hand away and let oil pour into pan.when it stop coming out replace bolt and tighten back up.locate oil filter and remove and put new one on.the looking on top of engine locate oil fill cap and remove and filling with 4 qarts oil.then look for a back square box or tubaler and open it up to expose air filter taking it out throw away and replace with new one then fasten it back into car and theb raise car off jack stand lower car to ground and start car check under car if no oil is leaking from under car pat yourself on back because you just did your first oil change. How to change the oil and clean the air filter on a 1999 ford fiesta?Go to youtube and type in oil change on your model car and there you go...

    How to change oil filter?

What %26quot;special%26quot; tool do I need to change the oil filter on a 1996 Honda Prelude. How to change oil filter?A filter wrench. A drain plug wrench and a catch pan to collect the used oil. After removing the used filter, check to be absolutely sure that the oil filter seal came off with the filter. I have one car that for some reason 4 times out of 5 the seal stays stuck to the adapter - which if not noticed and removed prior to installation of the new filter is Guaranteed to cause a sudden massive and total loss of the oil in the engine which will result in engine self destruction if it happens under load at highway speed! Clean off the adapter mounting surface, apply a film of oil to the seal of the new filter and attache it, tightening it hand tight - if difficult to get a good grip on the filter to tighten it, you can use the filter wrench to give it an extra 1/8 to 1/4 turn after it is snug. Remove the crankcase drain and remove the remaining dirty oil. When the draining oil trickles to a drip replace and moderately tighten the drain plug and refill the crankcase with the correct type and quantity of oil. Start the engine and verify that the engine generates normal oil pressure within 5 seconds of starting, and immediately look under the engine to be certain that the filter seal is good ( no cascade of oil running onto the ground ). Place the car back onto a level surface, turn the engine off for a few minutes and double check the oil level. How to change oil filter?a filter wrench to loosen the filter and a socket wrench to loosen the drain plug. How to change oil filter?Your hand! I'd recommend wearing gloves. Wait till the filter is cool enough. How to change oil filter? You may not need any special tool apart from a wrench or socket to get the drain plug off. For the filter itself, depending how tight it is. You can typically just use your hand. Or if it seems really tight, getting an oil filter wrench will help. That's the only %26quot;special%26quot; tool you may need.

Otherwise it's straight forward. I've pasted a general oil change link that may help.

How to change the oil filter on an '01 Camry without spilling oil?

On the 2001 Camry, the oil filter sits near the front of the engine on a downward angle. Every time I unscrew the filter, a bunch of oil just spills out on the front of the engine (because of the downward angle).

Is there a way to fully drain the oil filter or unscrew this so I don't have the unnecessary clean up?How to change the oil filter on an '01 Camry without spilling oil?Sometimes, punching a hole in the filter will allow it to drain (the air replaces the oil). Also try wrapping a rag around the base of the filter before unscrewing it. Terrible design on toyota's part. How to change the oil filter on an '01 Camry without spilling oil?cut a large plastic soda bottle in half use it to catch oil and filterHow to change the oil filter on an '01 Camry without spilling oil?let the car sit for a couple of hours b/4 removing filter, this allows the filter to drain all the oil into the engine.

  • How often should I change the oil and how often should I change the oil filter?

I only drive a few blocks each day to catch the bus. And I hardly drive my car after work. Should I still change the oil every 3 months? What about the oil filter? How often should I change the oil and how often should I change the oil filter? If you only drive a few blocks every day (let's say 2 miles round trip), that means you probably accumulate perhaps 50 miles per month - a very, very low amount of miles.

I suggest that once a week, you drive your car on a short trip, for at least 30 miles or minutes, to get the engine into its normal operating temperature range and to evaporate any water that accumulates in your oil pan during the week.

Water gets into your oil from condensation every day as the air - including water vapor - in the oil pan cools down. This water combines with combustion byproducts (NOx) and any sulfur in the oilor unburned gas will form weak acids, which are not good for engine bearings and other critical metal surfaces. Most good oils have buffers which, for the most part, neutralize the acids. But eventually they will be consumed and any acids in the crankcase oil can start to cause corrosion problems.

My suggestion is to drive 30 minutes every weekend, and change your oil %26amp; filter per your mfr's recommendations -- on the time-based schedule. (You don't put enough miles on your car to use the mileage-based schedule.)

And change your oil filter on every oil change - it's cheap insurance and you will be ensuring that as much as 1 quart of dirty, used oil is removed when the old filter is replaced. How often should I change the oil and how often should I change the oil filter? My come back for this frequent question is this %26quot;If oil can sit in the ground for millions of years why can it not sit in your engine for more than 3 mos/3000 miles.

The answer is %26quot;of course it can%26quot; Todays motor oils are heavily engineered lubricants that resist breakdown better than anytime in automotive history. These ideas and standard are put out there by the auto manufacture and oil companies who have been i bed together since the first Ford was built.

The type of driving you mention would allow me, if Iwere your mechanic, to guide you into a different king\d of thinking. I would have you watching the color of the motor oil, looking for a loss of translucency which is evidence of oil break down and suspended particles. When the dip stick showed dirty oil change it and the filter. Dont be surprised with your type of driving if it last 6-7 months. How often should I change the oil and how often should I change the oil filter?3 months or 30,000 miles

    and yes change the filter

if you use synthetic oil its not required as oftenHow often should I change the oil and how often should I change the oil filter?Tom sj has the right answer and even gets into the tenical part of it not driving your car very far dosent let the oil get warm enuff to remove the moisture from it and it builds up and causes some very expensive problems every three months the way you drive is how often you need to change itthe motor just gets warm enuff to cause condination inside of it but never hot enuff to remove itHow often should I change the oil and how often should I change the oil filter?Every 90 days or 3000 miles! When ever you reach your 3000 mark you should change your filter! and oil! And or depending on what kind of oil you use!

Hope that helpsHow often should I change the oil and how often should I change the oil filter?Constant 4 -5 block trips twice per day is the worlds worst on any internal combustion motor engine oil.

The motor never reaches maximum temperature to drive off and evaporate water condensation in the crankcase. Poor piston ring seal when the motor's cold probates cylinder wash down with raw fuel. This causes gum varnish and oil sludging build up. Oil that just %26quot;sits%26quot; in the ground bares no resemblance what so ever as compared to modern multi-grade high detergent, anti-foam, anti-oxident, high shear strength anti-gall and anti-wear motor oil. Regulsr multi-viscosity 5W-30 pours @ - 35 below zero Farenheight. It flashes to fire at + 400 degrees F.

Ground crude is only a very minimum starting point in the production of everything oil related. Grease, oil, tar, wax, naptha, kerosene, #1 %26amp; #2. home heating and diesel fuel, mineral spirits, acetone, xylene, propane, butylene, gasoline, and others are cracked from the valuable black slop from under the earth's surface.

In the fall change the oil and filter. In the dead of the winter shorten the drain and filter changes to once every 4 months regardless of mileage. If you didn't drive your car at all it would be fine to let it go six months. If your car calls for 5,000 mile oil changes by all means do it in the summer.

There's a way around frequent oil changes during winter months and that's by switching to a full synthetic 5W-30 motor oil year round. Most new cars today call for 5W-20 year round.

lubricating and filter changes are cheap insurance when you do it yourself. While on the filter subject NAPA filters are made by the Wix Company. AC Delco and Purolator are the only ones that are remotely close. Your car is the second most valuable item you own. Why treat it like a piece of crap. How often should I change the oil and how often should I change the oil filter?i change the oil on my honda accord every 5,000 miles but since u drive a few blocks do it ever 3,500 miles. and you always change the filter with each oil changeHow often should I change the oil and how often should I change the oil filter?only driving the car a short distance is very bad for it because if you do not get the engine hot enough it will form water in your oil and gass from improper expantion of the internal parts this will lead to a variaty or problems so when driving just a short distance start you car 10 to 15 min early to save on your motors life

I have honda accord LX-P 2009. I am ready for change motor oil and oil filter. But I am wondering...

Do I have to use the oil filter wrench? How about using just my hands and its force? When changing oil filter, Is the oil filter wrench or something needed?Your hands aren't going to cut the mustard. Make sure to clean the seat good and coat with a light coat of oil or grease before installing new filter. When changing oil filter, Is the oil filter wrench or something needed? If the old filter was properly installed, it should be able to be removed by hand. If not, you can buy a filter wrench at any parts store/Walmart, etc. Follow directions when installing the new one, and you should have no problems. When changing oil filter, Is the oil filter wrench or something needed? While it is true that if the filter was installed correctly you should be able to remove it by hand, 99% of the time they are installed too tightly. When you purchase the oil filter for it, find the cup style oil filter wrench that fits the filter. They fit on a 3/8%26quot; drive ratchet and will make things so much easier. When installing the new filter, first check to make sure the old base gasket is not stuck to the engine, then smear a light coat of the old oil on the gasket of the new filter. Screw the new filter on by hand until the gasket just makes contact with the engine, then tighten an additional 3/4th's of a turn by hand. Do not use the wrench to install the new filter, only to remove the old one. When changing oil filter, Is the oil filter wrench or something needed?i install them all day long in a lube shop and very close to all of them go on by hand aside from the canister type. hand tight will do just fine as long as you have a good grip and lube the gasket prior to installation.

Hi whilst driving my 2003 renault megane yesterday,a messege flashed up saying Change oil soon.I checked my oil,and its between the max and min mark.So i called Renault and they said it needs a oil and filter change.Im just wondering whether as Renault are pricey,if i would be better taking it too any garage. But i will need the messege to be reset after. What do you think? And how much would this cost at Renault? ThanksRenault megane needs oil filter change? How much?Hi Donna,

The message comes up at preset times which are normally after set intervals of time or after a certain number of miles.

Depending on your model of Megane, the message will come up before every 17,000 miles or 23 months ( servicing schedule 2 years or every 18,000 miles whichever is sooner ), or every 12,000 miles and 1 year.

Your level of oil doesn't matter - you change the oil in your chip or frying pan every so often because otherwise it becomes horrible, it is the same with a car engine.

I guess your car needs an actual service. It is outside it's warranty now, so you can take it wherever you like really, a private garage will be cheaper than a dealer. I personally use a Renault Dealer, because a) I trust this garage and b) If I didn't already have experience of them, I would be more confident they would do a proper job.

I can't give you a cost for servicing, because it depends which service it needs.

These links from the Renault Megane owners club are discussions about the message you've had appearing, so you may find them helpful/interesting. The last link gives details on how to reset the %26quot;change oil soon%26quot; message.

Suggest you check within your handbooks whether your car needs a service. If you think it does need an oil and filter change its only a small job, so suggest a private garage does it ( it shouldnt be too expensive ) and you can reset the message following the instructions in the above link, if they don't reset it for you. If it needs a full service, take it to a dealer or somewhere you trust!

can you compare the price of the oil change and stuff like that with a bmw x5 with a ford windstar sel?If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford?My parents have a Windstar. The oil is scheduled to change every 3000 miles at $28 (filter incl). The X5 is every 15,000 at $115 (local dlr price) after the 4 yr/ 48k free maintenance, the X5 is cheaper $140 vs. $120. Since there is a huge savings over the first 48,000 miles, it will take the Ford a long time to break even!If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford?If you're buying a new BMW, ALL maintenance is included for free during the entire 4 year 50k mile warranty. Afterwards, it will be moderately expensive, expect at least $120-130 at the dealership, probably higher. Gotta pay to play.

But again, BMW gets you a year longer, and 14k extra miles on the warranty that Ford won't get. And in my opinion, you'll be treated better at the BMW dealer. If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford?I own both a Ford Expedition EB, and a BMW X5. Both are out of factory warranty, so I pay for all maintenance. The Ford truck is cheaper (oil, filter, air filter, Coil Packs, breaks...) than the X5. Also, remember that the BMW often require special tools (which cost a lot) when fixing/replacing some parts as compared to the Ford.If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford? It's cheaper, most oil filters for fords are 15-20 bucks, the bmw how ever looked anywhere from 5-15.If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford?If you buy it new from the dealership, maintenance is free up to 100k miles. If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford?same thing

How do you change oil filter on isuzu trooper mk1 mine is at the rear of engine i cant reach properly from top?

i did manage to get filter strap on but icant see how id restart new filter if i took old one off cant see access from underneath eitherHow do you change oil filter on isuzu trooper mk1 mine is at the rear of engine i cant reach properly from top?Quite often the newer cars are designed to remove the oil filters from the bottom.

Once the cars up on ramps or jack stands, it's usually within elbow reach.

And if it is real stuck.........we stab them all the way through both sides with a Philips screwdriver and leverage them off that way......Messy some times.....but it works

No jack stands or ramps........pull 2 wheels up and in line on a curbHow do you change oil filter on isuzu trooper mk1 mine is at the rear of engine i cant reach properly from top?The best way to do this is from under the engine, lay on your back with a nice strong screw driver. Hammer the screw driver into the side of the oil filter and keep hammering until the screw driver has gone all the way through the filter. You can then lever the screw driver round to turn the filter off.

Remember to smear a little engine oil onto the rubber seal of the new filter before you fit it and only tighten the filter hand tight.

Ja.How do you change oil filter on isuzu trooper mk1 mine is at the rear of engine i cant reach properly from top?MANY auto manufacturers design their cars for ease of assembly (and therefore lower production costs) rather than ease of maintenance. Sorry to hear you have one of those.

Many times you have to remove something to get to the oil filter. Shouldn't be anything major, but you might need to remove a plastic cover or something. Do you have it jacked up on secure jack stands? Lay on your back and try to get at it from a number of angles. There should be one where you can remove it safely.

There are also a WIDE range of oil filters out there. My favorites are Purolator, Purolator Pure One, NAPA Gold, and Amsoil. The %26quot;correct%26quot; filter for any vehicle isn't always the exact same size from different manufacturers. Get some help from the guy/gal at the parts store to help you find one with the correct thread but a shorter body so it's easier to install. The flip side of this approach is that you will have a smaller filter element inside so it will clog sooner, but you should still be fine for 3,000 miles or so.

    Good luck!

How often are we supose to change oil filter? on 02 civic?

is it every time y ou change oil? how often do you do it?How often are we supose to change oil filter? on 02 civic? For the cost of the filter (average $4.00-$6.00) maybe a liitle higher if the dealer does the job. I would replace the filter at every oil change. That way you have a fresh clean filter to complement the fresh clean oil. A few other tips for long engine life #1. run the lightest weight oil you can find in the cold weather, like a 5W-30 weight and when the warm weather comes switch to a 10W-30 weight and allways use oil that is rated %26quot;high efficency%26quot; or %26quot;energy conserving%26quot; %26quot;CASTROL GTX%26quot; is my personal favorite. #2. AVOID SYNTHETIC oil unless your motor has at LEAST 15 THOUSAND MILES ON IT as the thinner base of the SYNTHETIC oil can sneak past newer engine parts and end up in the combustion chamber being burned. #3 CHANGE YOU OIL AND FILTER EVERY THREE THOUSAND MILES OR THREE MONTHS WHICHEVER COMES FIRST RELIGIUOSLY,A EASY WAY TO REMEMBER THE TIME SPAN IS TO CHANGE YOUR OIL AND FILTER EVERY CHANGE OF THE SEASONS, your owners manual may say that doing it that often is excessive and only comes under the severe service recomendations but trust me and everybody I know,STOP AND GO CITY DRIVING WITH SHORT TRIPS AND EXTENDED HIGHWAY DRIVING IS SEVERE SERVICE. Just remember car companies and their dealers want you to come back to their service departments every now and then for service and to their showroom every few years or so to buy a new car because yours is starting to show signs of wearing out and the easisest way for them to do that is to tell you that you only have to do minimum service on your car hence the normal/severe driving service recomendations in your owners manual. I speak from experience as I have been working in dealers of most every make of car or trucks service and parts departments since 1975How often are we supose to change oil filter? on 02 civic?every time you change the oil, you change the filter too. oil will always be oily. if you simply leave the filter in without changing it, it will degrade the new oil faster causing you to replace it more frequently. How often are we supose to change oil filter? on 02 civic?Every 3000 miles with the oil change. How often are we supose to change oil filter? on 02 civic?Yes, every 3k just like the oil.How often are we supose to change oil filter? on 02 civic? If it is dusty where you live, then every time you change the oil. If it is not dusty, every 10,000 miles should be fine, just use a quality filter (not FRAM)How often are we supose to change oil filter? on 02 civic?every 5000km...or three months dependding on driving...change the oil often enough and a civic will make it to 400000kmsHow often are we supose to change oil filter? on 02 civic? Here's the CORRECT answer. ALWAYS change the filter whenever you do an oil change. I recommend it every 3000 miles. Old filters have metal particles and sludge in the that will be recirculated through the engine unless you replace the filter...this could cause damage.

%26quot;Sawtooth Honey%26quot;s answer is incorrect...never go 10,000 miles on old oil. Especially on a high RPM engine like the one in your Honda. Unless repair bills are something you enjoy.

  • How to change oil filter?

How often do I need to perform the Oil & filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?

I Have a Subaru Legacy sedan 2001. On my last Oil change, I replace from natural oil to synthetic oil. If I use synthetic oil, How often do I need to change the Oil %26amp; filter of my car???How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?Every engine is in different condition. If you really want to know how long you can go between changes, you need to have an oil analysis done by someplace like Blackstone Labs. It's cheap and they will give you a detailed printout of what's in the oil and how long you could go with it. Otherwise just use the manufacturers recommendation. They do way more research then anyone here so don't listen to online advice. It's not their car they don't really care. Just because I go 6000 miles between changes, doesn't mean your car will like the same. If you don't know how to see over time what interval works for your engine, listen to Subaru. How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?Depends on the oil you used. Typically Subaru tells you that every 3750 miles you should change the oil. Follow the manufactures specs and you shouldn't have any issues. How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?Oil filters are only good for 3,000 miles. Just use regular motor oil and change it every 3,000 miles. I love it when people wonder why the motor is tarnished up and throwing codes even if they switched to Mobil 1. There plugged up oil filters weighed 3 times more than it should have. How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?Synthetic oils out perform regular oil and as a result have a longer life, I have a 2001 Forester with 140k on it and I have been using synthetics for the last two years with an interval of 5000 miles, My engine is still in perfect condition. I use Mobil1 high mileage which says it is good for 7,500 miles, so I am being a little conservative. How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?I bought my 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback (2.5 litre) new, and have been using Valvoline Durablend synthetic/natural oil mix in it from scratch (As recommended by the Dealership where I bought the car). I change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles. The owner's manual calls for a 7,500 mile interval. At 139,500 miles my Subie neither leaks nor burns a drop of oil between changes. I have had to do absolutely no repairs to the engine.

Now, I do put Mobil 1 in my Porsche 911 Turbo S, but then that's the single recommended oil for Porsches. And, you know, that car cost as much as six Outbacks. With Mobil 1 and a Porsche filter, their recommended interval is every 15,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?You should always change your oil and filter at the same time. With that said, you should change your synthetic oil every 3k-5k miles. You can get away with running it for longer then that, but just to be safe I would stay in that range. Oh and when going synthetic make sure you go full synthetic and not blend. Blend can have a very wide percentage range of actual synthetic in it, and if you are gonna use blend you mine as well just use regular oil.How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?I personally have never heard of changing the oil beyond 3,000 miles. On that note: It is usually a rule of thumb if you will to get the oil(be it dinosaur made or man made) changed every 3,000 miles at the least. That includes the oil filter too. Never skimp on the good filters for your oil either! The better your filter, the cleaner your oil will be! Also, when you change your oil, check to see if the oil coming out of the oil pan feels as if it's got grit in it. If it feels anything other than oil, you should get the engine checked out properly by your mechanic as soon as possible! How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?I would say every 3-4k miles. and try to use rotella t 5w-40 if you live in a warmer climate. How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?i have an 08 WRX and use Mobil 1 synthetic and change the oil every 7k miles. I also have a cold air intake which means I never have to change the oil filter. Now, your car is not high performance and you may not need synthetic since it is more expensive, and it may not be worth getting a cold air intake, depending on the miles and how long you plan on keeping it. If regular oil, 3k miles or a little more and it should be fineHow often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?IF you are using Mobil 1 EP, it can go as far as 10k before I, personally, felt the difference.

Typical Syn. Oil can go around 5k to 8k, depended on how you drive the car, is that a daily or a track racing car...

The filter usually changes when you do the oil change.

However, you need to look at the labels on the backside of the Syn oil to make sure it is Synethic instead of a Blend of bulk/syn. There are some manufacturer claims that their Syn Oil is Synethic but the test limit did not even pass the standard tests...so watch out.

How to change oil filter on 2006 VW Jetta?

Not as easy as :Cody: says. Obviously hasn't done one. The screws are T25 Torx screws. Remove 8 of them, then remove the belly cover. Now you will see a black plastic oil filter housing on the front of the engine. Theres a small circular disc on the end, this is meant for a factory draining tool that screws into the end to drain the filter housing. if you don't have one, which i am sure you don't or you wouldn't be asking, you will end up making a mess. The housing requires a large oil filter cap wrench to remove, and i assume you wont have that either. So go get either the cap wrench to fit or a belt style oil filter wrench to remove the housing.

If you don't want to go purchase the tools needed, you should just take it in and spend less and save the mess. How to change oil filter on 2006 VW Jetta?just uncrew the oil like a light bulb and put a new one in

Next slide on gasket and new oil filter. Replace and tighten cover. Do not forget to tighten oil drain plug using a TORX T45 socket fitting. Refill with filter is 4.75 quarts of oil.How do you change oil filter on a 2008 Chevy Aveo? You might need a different type of oil filter wrench. Try the kind that fit on a ratchet and have the spring loaded clamps. They are adjustable and actually tighten up as you turn it. If not sometimes I just took a hammer and hammered a big screwdriver into an oil filter and turned it that way.

Possible to change oil filter without changing oil?

I have a Toyota Camry 1989. It is leaking oil so I put about a quart in every month. The oil is therefore pretty clean, but it's time to change the filter. Is it possible to change the filter without draining the oil? How? (I'm assuming it's not too hard to change oil...)

Also, would it be bad to drain the oil, change the filter, and put the oil back in again?Possible to change oil filter without changing oil?Do the full oil change. If you change just the filter you'll make a huge mess and lose a lot of your oil anyway.

Read the car manual to find out how much oil and what kind you need and buy that much and an oil pan and bucket and oil filter at the store.

Get out the wrenches, roll of paper towels, and all the other stuff you just bought. Take off the top oil cap (where you normally put in oil), put the oil pan under the car where the screw is for the oil and then loosen it and then hand undo the rest (watch out for the washer - don't let it drop!) and let it drain into the pan (this will take a few minutes.) Meanwhile use paper towels to wipe off the screw and washer. Set aside. Once it's drained, reach up under to where the oil filter is and undo this (this could be a little messy even with it drained) - you may need a special oil filter wrench to loosen this. Dispose of this. Put the screw and washer back in TIGHTLY. Get the new oil filter, put a thin coating of oil along the top where it screws in (use your finger to put this oil on) and then put it on where the old one came off of and screw it on as tight as you can. (You can use the wrench to make it tighter if you want.) Now you just add the new oil to the top. (Put in as much as your manual says to.) Run the car, and check the level to make sure it's okay. Add if needed.

    Voila! Oil changed.

Empty the oil pan into the bucket and take it to some place that recycles it.Possible to change oil filter without changing oil?The oil can be changed without changing the oil. Be sure to check the oil level after changing the filter and starting the car. Since you're going to have to get under the car to do this, you might as well just drain the oil from the engine and do the job right with a full oil change%26gt;Possible to change oil filter without changing oil?It would be advised that you do both. The filter catches the bad or dirty particles in the oil but it doesnt do it all. Also you may want to replace the pan and gasket if thats where the leak is coming from. With the car almost 20 yrs old, that gasket is probably worn outPossible to change oil filter without changing oil? You're going to have a big mess and waist a lot of your good oil if you pull the filter without draining it first.

You can reuse the same oil if you make sure your drain pan is clean and no debris falls into it while you're down there removing the drain plug.Possible to change oil filter without changing oil?If you wish a new filter just remove the existing one and put on the new one. There will be some oil loss when you take off the filter, only a small amount, so have something to catch it, a large rag will do. You will need to add one quart of oil after the new filter is installed.Possible to change oil filter without changing oil?You do not need to drain the oil to change the filter. Just replace the filter, start the engine let it idle for a moment, shut it off and add oil to the high mark on the dipstick.Possible to change oil filter without changing oil?Absolutely! I learned this back in the mid 60's. I drove a company truck (Chevrolet) for an older gentleman who NEVER changed oil. We put a LOT of miles on these trucks and ended with over 200,000miles.

He said that the oil doesn't break down, it just needs to be cleaned. We would change the filter (the oil was black), add the new filter and a quart of oil. After driving 2/300 miles you could pull the dipstick and the oil would be as clean as new oil from the can.

How do you change an oil filter in a scion?

Oil filter is inverted in the scion. Do you have to empty oil from engine before removing filter? I changed oil last week, but didn't have right size filter wrench. Now I want to change the filter. Do I have to re-change the oil?How do you change an oil filter in a scion? No, you don't need to change the oil, unless you drove 2000+ miles in the last week ... The oil in the oil pan will not be affected by removing the oil filter, the engine needs to be running for the oil pump to push oil to the filter. The filter in your Scion holds less than 1/4 of a quart (including the oil in the line). After replacing the filter, start it until you see oil light on dash go out (check filter for leaks), turn it off - check oil level. A good rule of thumb to remember - always better to be a little low than a little over full (the crosshatched area on the dipstick is 1 qt) 1/4 qt shy is better than 1/4 qt over... But, you will hurt nothing by changing only the filter at this time. It is, however, better, to change both at same time in future...How do you change an oil filter in a scion?Ideally both oil and filter are changed concurrently, but it's not required. Oil filter will contain some old, dirty oil. As such, you want to change the filer when changing the oil; otherwise the dirty oil will escape from the filter and end up back in the engine.

The reason I say it's not required is because the oil amount in the filter is very low, so it will not do much harm. Also, some filters do not even have anti-drainback valves.

In your case, however, you may indeed need to flush the oil if the filter on your Scion is below the oil level in the oil bin, although this is rare. Do a visual check of your Scion to see if the filter is above or below the oil bin. If it's above, you're safe in changing the filter by itself. How do you change an oil filter in a scion?I would its like taking a shower without soap. Oil is cheaper than steel and why put a new filter on without changing the oilHow do you change an oil filter in a scion?i worked at a dealership. no you do not have to empty the oil pan first, also get one of those claw oil filter wrench, it works best.also when your done start the car and check the oil level you may have to add some for the new filter.
