How easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?

I have a 306 diesel and need to change the front break pads on my 306. i have done regular maintenance on it and change the oil, filters etc etc and drained the coolant from the radiator etc etc. i have to haynes manual for this car so is it pretty easy to do. also is it worth doing the discs as well? How easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?Front pads should take an average 'kerbside' mechanic about 45 minutes per side once the wheels are off.- longer if you have the usual 4 cuppa's! Ensure the car is adequately supported remove the bolts securing the pads in place, then using a couple of large flat bladed screwdrivers gradually force the pads %26amp; piston back into the calliper ( alternating ends). Discs may require you to remove the calliper assembly with a splined drive socket - size 50 torx ( it did when I changed them on my 406 as the discs will not go over the hubs) If you do the discs as well - about 75-90 minutes per sideHow easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?simple enough but you may need certain tools to remove calipers before discs,in order to remove pads find a g clamp to push slowly the pistons back fully put in pads with a small amount of copper grease only on the rear of pads then remove full caliper to remove disc but be careful of just letting it hang by its rubber pipe. How easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?Just to add to the first answer re the discs - if they are wearing thin, have a lip all round the outer rim, are badly corroded or scored it is best to replace them at the same time as the pads. Not always easy to get them off without a puller but some do come straight off. refer to Haynes. How easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?Wow! Three good answers already.

Only a little to add.

Rotors have a minimum thickness, usually stamped on them.

Your rotors may be able to be skimmed if they have suitable thickness left.

They should have no lips, discolouration, grooves etc

Make sure your replacement pads look identical to the ones on your car before getting too far into the job (ie check as soon as you get a wheel off). There are often different pads and the shop may not have got it right....

Honda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?

I'm not a mechanic by any means...I'm good with changing oil, brake pads, spark plugs, some belts and could do an alternator....but I'm not certain if I should try the transmission fluid or take it to a garage???? Also, I looked in my Haynes book and seems like the fuel filter sits on top of the fuel tank and I will have to go back and look but I think I remember reading something about a hatch under the back seat to change the fuel filter so you don't have to drop the tank. Anyone ever try these two things and how difficult would it be??Honda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?Personally, I don't think a 2002 needs a gas filter change. I wouldn't bother.

As for transmission fluid, I would change it at about the 75,000 mile mark.

First, purchase only fluid made for that vehicle from the dealer - don't buy a generic substitute at the auto store! The Honda's are very fussy about the fluid. I wouldn't take a chance on ruining the trans by buying a cheap replacement fluid.

It is very easy to change it. Just put a catch pan under the trans and remove the plug to drain the fluid. It is true that you will not drain 100% of the fluid this way, but replacing 80% of it gives your trans mostly new fluid in it. This is what I do. The service stations try to sell you a flushing of the system, but it is expensive (they have to pay for the expensive machine).

If you are really concerned about getting all of the old fluid out you can flush it yourself. Here's how: Buy twice the amount of fluid (8 containers instead of 4). Find the trans inlet cooling tube on the bottom of the radiator and crack it open to allow fluid to escape. Start the car and let it idle while filling with new fluid. When you think half of the fluid has been passed through, secure the cooling tube and top off the fluid. It's still a lot cheaper than having a flush done.Honda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?if you don't know how to change it, take it to mavis tires or somewhereHonda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?alot of times with a 'drain and fill' method for switching up ur tranny fluid, you will only end up replacing about 50-75% of the fluid, is your trans auto or manual? If it's an auto, I would reccomend just bringing it into a quick lube shop, most of them have t-tec machines that go straight into the dipstick hole, and will replace 100% of the trans fluid. Also, for your fuel filter, I can't remember if the 2002's still have the fuel filter located under the hood by the firewall, if your FF is there, it is an extremely easy job to do, you will just need some open box end wrenches, and vice gripsHonda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?dude dont do it your self, tranny is something you dont wanna mess with, unless you have money for a new one... I think you have to blow and flush all the fluid out b4 you put in the new one, its not like changing motor oil so just take it to the dealer so you have the warranty on it aswell

I want to ask about my oil filter?

ok i change my oil today and the oil was dark black but one thing was the oil filter was not dirty i mean i replace my oil every 3,000 miles and i all ways take the oil filter out and change it but its not dirty the oil filter this is the 3rd time that the oil filter is clean and i know the oil have to go in the oil filter to clean the oil when the engine runs but its clean no dark old oil in the filter is there something wrong with my oil pump how i know if its not working right and its a fram oil filterI want to ask about my oil filter? If your oil pump is not working your car would not run thirty miles, let alone three thousand miles. Yourloil filter looks good because you are changing it every three thousand miles like you are supposed to. Don't worry about it. it might seem clean if you look at it on the outside, but inside the filter is where you would see the stuff the filter is filtering. This has happened to me too.I want to ask about my oil filter?I don't know what kind of car you have, but I would look at the oil filter bypass valve in the oil filter neck. It may be stuck open and allowing oil to bypass the filter.I want to ask about my oil filter?i agree you have a flow issue, the bypass valve is stuck open not allowing oil onto the oil filter once it is filled up. the problem is not necessarily the pump or the filter. depending on what type of car you are driving, the location of this bypass valve can be very easy to get to.

How can I tell if my oil pump is going out?

I have an 01 Mitsubishi Galant 4 cylinder and my oil light only comes on when the car has been driven for a while and only when at idle. If I am at a light sitting it flickers and as soon as I start to go it shuts off. Any suggestions? I have changed my oil/filter and all levels are good. How can I tell if my oil pump is going out?If it bothers you check the oil pressure sensor and replace it if it's off. It that doesn't work just keep driving until it burns up.

The reason the pressure goes low is due to excessive wear around the oiled engine parts. Oil is leaking past where it used to just (seep) into. All you can do to fix it is a major overhaul or replace the engine. How can I tell if my oil pump is going out?Well, it sounds like your 8 year old car is starting to show some wear. Check with your own mechanic to be sure, but I'd say unless you are hearing valve chatter, the characteristic %26quot;tick tick tick%26quot; sound at an idle, I wouldn't worry about it too much. You could try a slightly heavier weight oil, if you're using 5-30 you might go to 10-40 for example.

I doubt it's the oil pump, they generally are a %26quot;pass/fail%26quot; thing and either work or don't. And if you had a problem with a dirty pick up screen, it would starve out for oil at any speed, not just at idle. How can I tell if my oil pump is going out?Yeah, just to a straight 40 weight unless you live in a really cold climate. there are oils now for high mileage vehicles that do a good job. they're available at all the auto parts stores. Drive it until the rods start knocking. How can I tell if my oil pump is going out?All ya gotta do is not idle the engine. There, I fixed it fur ya. Ok seriously, everybodies right, except the one about changing the oil press sensor. If you want to verify that the flickering light is in fact accurate you would plumb in a calibrated oil press guage and verify what the oil pressure actually is at idle. Not hard to do and doesn't cost nothing if you have a friend with a guage and the know how to plumb it into your system to do a quick check. How can I tell if my oil pump is going out?Put in thicker oil and keep driving. How can I tell if my oil pump is going out?you can tell alright ! after awhile you will hear a knocking noise if it goes out. if your engine sounds ok then it,s probably the oil pressure sending unit.

How do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?

I had a oil change/filter yesterday at JIFFY LUBE i DONT KNOW TO MUCH ABOUT CARS.... but i read my fuel perceantage on how it was at 44 percent good on my 2008 cobalt LT.... so when i was done geting my oil changed.. I looked at it expecting to see it at 100 percent it wasnt .still at 44 %..so i figured maybe there was still...old oil in the valves... but i went on a trip..150 miles still read 44%at the end when i came home.. and this morning when.. to went to the store the oil still read at 44 percent good..does this mean i was dupped%26gt;%26gt;/? and didnt change the oil..i did drive 150 miles and did expect the oil percentage to be at 100 percent but isnt..?.. or is there a way i can check if they did do the services i paid for..? and how much oil should have put in there.. im thinking they might of have just drained half and put half of what i paid for...reason why it reads 44%?still.. my vehicle is 2008 cobalt lt sedan.

how much liters of oil shoudl have beeen put in? and how do i check the air filter to see if it has been replaced? How do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?No, it just means they didn't reset the computer. To tell if they changed the oil or not, just pull the dipstick and look at the oil on it. Fresh oil is sort of a clear/amber liquid, looks about like honey, just thinner. Old oil will be almost black, like tar (won't be thick like tar, or if it is you got SERIOUS problems). You just need to reset the oil life meter, it tells you how in your car owners manual. Some of them have a button under the dash to push, some use the accelerator pedal, and a few even use the car stereo to reset it. You need to check the oil regardless, just to make sure the Jiffy Lube guys filled it completely. How do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?Here a little trick i learned from an old timer. To find out if your car needs an oil change. Drive it around a bit to let the oil circulate. Take it back to your driveway. Get a white piece paper. Pull your dip stick out and let the oil drip onto the paper. Let it soak up on the paper. The paper acts as filter. If it looks dark with dirty particles change the oil. If it looks somewhat clean and no dirty particles, no oil change needed. How do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?all these new cars that give you a oil life percentage have to be reset. they probably did change your oil, they just forgot to reset your message display. to check your air filter open your hood and look for a black box probably the size of a shoe box there should be a couple of clips to hold the top to the bottom when you un clip them youll be able to see if your air filter is nice and clean. your best bet is to just find a good mechanic that you can trust! How do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?pull out the oil dipstick, you can check the status of your oil, you will see a clear oil..

you will see a clean oil filter if you check under the hood or under the car.

have you try to reset the metering system??How do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?Why don't you call Car Talk on Saturday? They can help!

Call 1-888-CAR-TALK (888-227-8255)How do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?get some body to show you a few things under the hood/check book on how to reset the gauges/i believe its done through the radioHow do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?The oil life indicator that you are talking about, requires that it be reset after an oil change. Apparently they failed to do this and it is not reflecting that the oil has been changed. Pull the dip stick for the oil and look at what is on the stick. It should appear to be clean oil or close to it. If not , return to the place where you had the service done and have them correct the issue and reset the oil life indicator. GM vehicles will reset by following the procedure in the owners manual under maintenance. Good Luck

How often to change oil in old Pontiac that isn't driven much?

My grandma drives a 1994 Grand Prix with about 113k miles on it. She doesn't drive much (maybe 5-6k/yr) so she doesn't change the oil much. However, the car must leak or burn oil b/c I check it once in awhile %26amp; it's almost always low. For example, she got an oil change back in April %26amp; has driven about 2k mi since then - I just checked %26amp; it was almost a quart low.

I'm not an expert, but it seems she should change her oil more frequently b/c even if I add oil (which I do) the filter will still be dirty - right? It seems like if there isn't enough oil for a period of time the oil %26amp; filter will get gunked up more quickly than usual. I would like to know what to tell her %26amp; it would help to get an expert opinion! I guess I should also note that we live in an urban area %26amp; probably 60% of the driving is in town. Thanks very much! How often to change oil in old Pontiac that isn't driven much?Considering her driving, I would suggest an oil and filter change every six months, regardless of mileage. How often to change oil in old Pontiac that isn't driven much?Every 5 - 6 K miles. How often to change oil in old Pontiac that isn't driven much?JUST CHANGE IT EVERY 2 YEARS

Consider drivers side the right side.

With the hood up, on the left side is a plastic box, in it is the air filter.

The plugs are a bit difficult to see :)

To get to them you need to remove the air flow tubing that goes across the engine, then remove the center cover that is on top of the engine. You will see the coils and half your plugs, the others are under the coils. They are deep set and require a wire pulling tool to remove the plug wires.

Note: When removing the air flow tubing be careful not to dislodge the sensors in it, this will cause a multitude of problems.

The oil filter is located at the rear of the engine just to the right of center ... you will see the oil filter cap there and it needs a special tool to remove, it is plastic. Once that is removed you will see the oil filter ( insert ).

You can tell. How do I know my oil and filer are actually changed when I take my car to the dealership garage?Check you dipstick. If the oil on it is clear then they changed your oil. If it is really dark then they didn't. Also you can see your filter on the passenger side of your engine. I want a good resource. Like an on- line checklist.I need to know about care maitenance. After how many miles do you change the oil? Brakes? Air filter? Etc..?Every 3000 miles you change your oil if regular. If synthetic oil, every 5000 miles.

Every time you change your oil, you should check all the fluid and inspect the vehicle from the bottom. If you live in the country or a place where there is lot of dust...etc, I would change the air filter every three oil changes.

Your car should have a manual with a maintenance charts. You should take a look at if you really want to treat you vehicle good.

Is synthetic oil really worth it?

How often does synthetic oil have to be changed in a toyota pickup?

Someone told me that If I %26quot;run%26quot; synthetic oil all I had to do was change my oil filter/top off my oil every time it was time. Is this true/recommended?Is synthetic oil really worth it?yes its worth the cost, and you still have to change synthetic oil ,you just don't have to change it as often,i use it,and i only change it every 8 thousand miles, and ever who told you it didn't need to be changed just topped off was wrong in this case, all oil has to be changed, with synthetic oil just not as often, its the best oil you can buy right now though and will help keep the engine going a lot longer, good luck with it.Is synthetic oil really worth it?thank you.

Is synthetic oil really worth it?Depends on the Manufacturers recommendation....a lot of synthetic oil is good for thousands and thousands of miles...Is synthetic oil really worth it?Your owners manual spells out oil change intervals - follow that, and be able to prove it, or your warranty may be voided.

Synthetics may offer longer change intervals - you can have oil analysis done to check the chemical and particulate condition of the oil.

Best advice - pick one oil (brand and grade) stick with it, change your oil per the owners manual recommendation - or more frequently. Change the filter every time. The only people I know have had engine failures due to oil tried different kinds of oil or mixed different kinds. Is synthetic oil really worth it?I seriously thought it was good....until I tried it..

It may be good for lubrication..but I had 3 engine seals start leaking.

When I went back to regular oil the leaks stopped. Is synthetic oil really worth it?No change the oil the every 3k or 3 months like always. Never switch oils. If your truck has ever had regular oil in it don't run synthetic threw the engine because the two don't mix, your just creating problems. Neither really has an advantage. Synthetic just sounds like it protects more. I've been discussing diffenent oils in school for the past week. trust me, my instructors are guys who have been in the field for years and are by the book.Is synthetic oil really worth it?Yes, it is worth it. It will decrease engine friction, with a possible small increase in mileage. I wouldn't go more than 5000 max between oil changes though. It is not recommended to go back to regular oil in your engine once you have switched to synthetic. I use it in all my vehicles, and my motorcycle as well.Is synthetic oil really worth it?change it every 5000km's.

it is worth it, its engineered to have all the prefered qualitys mineral oil does not. look it up on the net it is very eye opening. Is synthetic oil really worth it?All depends on the year vehicle you have. Synthetic is good for the newer engines but the older engines say pre '95 Id say no but as for the %26quot;just changing the filter%26quot; that is a lie. Always change the oil when changing the filter

thankyouI have mitsubishi grandis 2005 2.4l MIVEC idid not know how much liter of engine oil should i put while change?First off, 2.4l does mean 2.4 liter but thats not referring to a oil quantity, thats referring to how much gas goes into all your cylinders. 2.4 liters of oil is very small. I have a 4 cylinder 2 liter eagle talon and I need almost 4.5 quarts of oil. I would call an auto parts store or a Mitsubishi dealer, they should have the answer. Also, running a low amount of oil can definitely cause damage to your motor. You might need to get that checked out as well. Dont drive it untill you get more oil.

I am not an expert, however, on a Cavalier 05, with an Ecotec 2.2L the oil filter is at the front of the engine, from above, to the right. It's a blach cap that can be opened with a 1 1/4 inch socket wrench, with extender. The filter just drops in. Good Luck.

It has an o-ring seal around it so be careful when re-installing it as to not pinch the o-ring. This system is really nice as the oil drains away from the filter and there really is minimal mess involved. The only thing they could do to make it any better would be to make it so you can reach the drain plug from the top also.Tried to change my oil today. I was unsuccessful. 2005 Chevy Cavalier.?ok , under the car, on the oil pan, you going to see a largen cap,,,, unscreew it an the fitler will be in side of it,Tried to change my oil today. I was unsuccessful. 2005 Chevy Cavalier.?Changing the oil and not the filter is bad unless it was a Napa Gold or WIX filter(actually same filter) and Synthetic oil like Royal Purple. I am assuming it isn't. The owner's manual might show you where the filter is. I have seen the Ecotech insert type filter cap on the front of the engine. It makes it easy to change from the top. I would recommend changing the oil right away and using Wix and Royal Purple. Change the filter every 5,000 miles and the oil every 10,000 miles. You'll get a little boost in mileage and it won't cost more in the long run. You just change less often. Have Fun with it!!Tried to change my oil today. I was unsuccessful. 2005 Chevy Cavalier.?listen to gyroman, and your car will last about 100,000 miles before it's pouring blue smoke out the tailpipe. Change your oil EVERY 3,000 MILES. anyways, some of the first answerers were right about where the filter is.Tried to change my oil today. I was unsuccessful. 2005 Chevy Cavalier.?hey its great your doing it your self. I'm sure you will venture farther into fixing your own vehicle. I think the best advise is to go to the parts store and buy you a bible on your vehicle, there about $20 and they have all your info and pics . they are awesome for someone who is learning, and a full time mechanic

  • How do i change the oil on a 2005 kawasaki ninja zx-6r 636?

i bought this bike and it had no type of manual for it so if someone could tell me what type of oil and oil filter and anything else that might be good to do while changing the oil.How do i change the oil on a 2005 kawasaki ninja zx-6r 636?I wasn't going to answere this since one the previos poster nailed it but then I saw one say that you can use regular car oil and that is wrong. On a Harley maybe because they have seperate oil for the transmition and the engine but on your bike the oil is used for both so you have to use oil that works for both ie motorcycle oil. This time of year go with 10w30 or 10w40 if you live in a warmer climate. The oil change is the same as a car, remove the plug, drain the oil, change the filter(which is a bit of a pain to remove given the limited access), put the plug back in and add oil. Check the sight glass window with the bike held stright upright not on the sidestand to tell when you have enough oil in it. If you get your oil and filter from a dealership they will be able to tell you exactly how much oil you will need. Get a K%26amp;N oil filter because when it comes time to change your oil next time they have a nut on the end of the filter which makes it much easier to remove and everyone I have talked to says they make better filters too and when you think about the rpms we run these things at getting good oil and filters seems like a good idea. Also if you go with synthetic oil you can change it less since the oil lasts longer once again check with the dealer and see what they say but I always use it and have never had a problem with 5000 mile change increments.

Oil only gets added to the gas on 2 stroke engines and yours is a 4 stoke so don't listen to that one either. How do i change the oil on a 2005 kawasaki ninja zx-6r 636?take it somewhere if you are asking this explaining itwon't help youHow do i change the oil on a 2005 kawasaki ninja zx-6r 636?Start here

LHow do i change the oil on a 2005 kawasaki ninja zx-6r 636?Under no circumstances do you ever add oil to the fuel on this model bike. 10W 30 or 15 W40 is what is commonly used on motorcycles. Make sure you use 4 stroke motorcycleoil, not 2 stroke or car oil. They are very different! Your best bet is to go to a Motorcycle Dealer or motorcycle parts store for your oil and filter. They can help you find the right filter. It will cost more than car oil and filters but thats the way things are.

    Why do people that know nothing about the subject chime in with answers that are completely wrong? Oil added to the gas is only for 2 stroke bikes like dirt bikes.How do i change the oil on a 2005 kawasaki ninja zx-6r 636?So I don't have to re-type, in the search box, search for %26quot;How do I do an oil change on a yzf 600r?%26quot;

The only difference is, the oil drain bolt is on the very bottom of the engine.

The oil level sight glass is below the oil fill cap.

Don't pay attention to the %26quot;only use motorcycle oil%26quot; statement.

After doing research, I found out automotive oil is no different than motorcycle oil.

Just use quality, brand name 4 stroke motor oil.

10w40 in cold weather %26amp; 20w50 in warm weather. How do i change the oil on a 2005 kawasaki ninja zx-6r 636?I use the regular ol' 10w-40 full synthetic. Works like a beaut and always has. Oil is oil. Buying bike oil is just paying more for the word %26quot;bike%26quot;. 10w-40 is never stocked as fully as the more popular weights, but I've always been able to find it at any gas station, auto parts store, etc.

DEFINITELY make sure the bike is vertical when you check the oil level. If you don't have a center stand, prop it against a wall (with a blanket in between if you baby it) or get a friend to hold it straight while you check the window. Too much oil can cause as much damage as not enough. How do i change the oil on a 2005 kawasaki ninja zx-6r 636?the oil should be added to the fuel

How do I change my oil???

Okay, heres the deal, Im trying to learn how to work on cars and trucks, mostly cars for drag racing and drifting and I need to know how to change my oil and the filter? Also, I need to learn the names of engines and how they work and everything. Can you please please please help!?!??! Thank You Lots!

*CC*How do I change my oil???Directly underneath the engine, there is an oil pan with a screw plug. This plug allows the oil to drain out. The filter will be somewhere in the same vicinity and screwed to the engine block.

You can buy a manual at any auto parts store for 25 bucks and it will tell you how to basically tear down and rebuild the entire car step by step. It will also show basis steps for oil changes, brake changes, etc.How do I change my oil???yuo can get books on cars %26amp; truck from pep boys -- autozone mosely all parts stores. How do I change my oil???i suggest taking a basic automotive classHow do I change my oil???Well first you will need the right tools to change your oil. You will need a wrench or a ratchet and socket to unscrew the drain plug on the oil pan underneath the car. You will also need the proper container to drain the oil into. You may need to raise the car somehow so make sure you have the proper safety equipment as well.

You can unscrew the oil fill cap on top of the engine first to make the oil drain quicker. After that you unscrew the bolt on the oil pan in the bottom of the vehicle. Then you let the oil drain. once it has all drained out you can screw the bolt back in.

It's important not to screw the bolt in too tight. You don't want to mess up the threads or it will lead to an oil leak. just make sure it's tight enough.

Next the oil filter. It is usually somewhere near the oil pan. All you have to do is unscrew it but be careful because some oil will spill out if the filter is a horizontal filter. Sometimes they are pretty tight and you might need an oil filter wrench which is a special tool to remove oil filters.

Now if the oil filter goes in vertically you can put some oil inside the filter and if you want put a dab of oil around the top of the oil filter and then screw it back again. All you have to do is make sure it's hand tight and not loose at all.

Now you can put the new oil into the engine. Use a funnel to avoid spilling the oil all over the engine. It will say in your vehicle's manual how many quarts. Check the dipstick to double check and then turn on the engine for a few minutes and check for leaks. Then you will need to properly dispose of the used oil at an oil recycling center. How do I change my oil???well first you have to make sure the oil is warm, not hot like you just ran it, and not cold like its been sitting overnight. it flows better when warm. then you locate the oil drain plug on the oil pan. loosen it a couple turns, then put a drip pan under the plug. take the bolt out the rest of the way by hand. the oil will flow into the pan. you have to wait till it comes to a very slow drip, usually about 10 minutes. while you are waiting you need to inspect the plug for stripped threads and replace the washer if there is one on it. then put the plug back in. then locate the oil filter, about the sice of a soda can on cars. you might need to get a oil filter wrench to get it off but if you can reach it with your hand you should be fine. take it off and make sure you have the pan under it. before you put the new one in make sure you prime it by pouring a little new oil in the new filter. then ccheck your old filter to make sure the rubber ring gasket came off with it. sometimes the rubber ring stays attached to the car and you need to pull it off. then lube the rubber ring on the new filter by rubbing a little old oil on the ring, this makes it easier to tighten. then screw the new oil filter on. when you tighten it, only tighten it by hand, do not overtighten or you will strip the threads. usually one turn past snug is good. then fill your car with proper oil viscocity and amount. then start the car and let it run for a couple minutes. shut it off and let the oil settle for a few more minutes. check the level. as for getting into drifting and deagracing, they are two totally different things. buy a chilton or haynes manuel for your car and just start playing around. or buy a junk yard car for a couple hundred bucks and tear it apart ant you will learn alot. this will get you famaliar but you need to take some classes or hang out with gear heads to learn more. buy some magazines that have tech articles and read them. you could learn alot. other wise keep asking questions to mechanics and on here...i need more points! good luckHow do I change my oil???If you have a stock vehicle get the basic repair maunual at any parts store 20-30 bucks and follw the directions if you have a dry-sump oil system the filter is remote mounted by the oil resevoir This is used on race motors due to the g forces applied to the oil basic drag cars make up for it by using a deep sump oil pan and an extended pick up tube (all the oil runs to the back on launch) a drifter throws the oil from side to side in the slide To change the oil and filter on a dry sump just open the valve and pull the filter try the site below just type in the engine in search example LT1 good luck

  • Oil change interval...How long between changes?

I have a 1994 Geo Prizm with the 1.6 L four cylinder engine.

It has 198,000 miles on it.

I have been changing the oil and filter every 3,000 miles since I got it (at about 180,000 miles).

At every oil change, I use Castrol GTX High Mileage 5W-30 and a Fram Tough Guard oil filter.

I decided to check out my owners manual for mileage recommendations. The manual says every 3,750 miles under %26quot;extreme%26quot; conditions and 7,500 miles under %26quot;normal%26quot; conditions.

In the winter, I always let it warm up for at least five minutes before I go anywhere. And probably 75% of my driving is at 70 MPH.

Since this engine has so many miles on it, should I change the oil every 3,000 miles or 3,750 (like what the manual says) or even 4,000 miles?

Thanks!!Oil change interval...How long between changes?-The more often you change the oil, the better lubricated the engine will be and the longer your car will last. 70 MPH in a little 1.6L four cylinder is a lot harder on it than if you were doing that speed in any V6 or even larger 4 cylinder. But then again it sounds like you let it warm up and don't do a lot of city driving. So I would recomend you change it every 3,750 miles. This is at the more often end of the manual, but it is also a high mileage car.Oil change interval...How long between changes?some where between 3000 to 5000 miles best way to do it

doesnt mean you do it just at 3000 miles or 7500 can do it anytime you want or when it looks dirty cleaner the oil longer it last just doing it is what mattersOil change interval...How long between changes?it has high milage so i would stay at every 3000m. keep using your oil, castrol is good for small cars like urs. good at letting your lil car warm up like that to in the winter.gets the oil around . hard starts are bad on carsOil change interval...How long between changes?Like you said most owners manuels say to do it around 3-4 thousand miles or 3-4 months but if I were you I would continue changing it just like you have. You know your car better then anyone else so when you think it needs changing and when its best for you change it.Oil change interval...How long between changes?i would change like you have been but the oil would last longer but to be safe i would do it as you are if you have had no problemsOil change interval...How long between changes?Since your vehicle has so many miles, go up to GTX 10/40, and you only need to let the engine run for 60 seconds for the oil to circulate throughout, I would say since you have always used GTX,... you can go 4,ooo miles between.Oil change interval...How long between changes?Well, extreme conditions would include a lot of stop and go traffic and short trips. If you drive mostly on the highway, let your car warm up, and don't floor it at every stoplight, then you should be able to change your oil closer to 7,500 miles. Just check the dipstick at every fuel fillup. When it starts to look dirty, then would be a good time to change it.Oil change interval...How long between changes?A synthetic or synthetic blend oil may cost two or three times as much as conventional oil, but the oil and filter changes last three times as long (see http://www.mobiloil.com ) under normal driving and engine operating conditions. So you can go 9,000 miles between oil changes and your engine will actually be better protected! The only proviso is on a new car that's under warranty. Then you need to do whatever is required to keep the warranty in force in case there's an engine or transmission failure under warranty. I've been changing my oil and filter every 9,000 miles with Mobil One for 40 years with dozens of old and new cars and have never had an internal engine problem.

Use 30wt oil and it will take about 3 pints of oil. Don't fill it above the full mark on the dipstick. If there was an oil filter it would be on the same side of the engine as the dipstick and very obvious. Engines that size usually don't have filters. Filter Change Gone Very Wrong?

Thanks to anyone that has legal advice on this matter, I'm reverting to this avenue before getting a lawyer involved.

I brought my vehicle into Jiffy Lube for an Oil change a month ago. They recommended that I replace my cabin air filter, so I did. The statement of work that I received from Jiffy Lube states that I received an oil change and also my cabin air filter was replaced. Shortly after my visit to Jiffy Lube, I began hearing loud vibrating noises underneath my glove box. I took my car into my dealer to see what the issue was and they told me that a lever on the Cabin Air Filter compartment was broken off and was rattling around in the blower. This piece controls where the source of air is coming from (either from outside the vehicle, or air within). Needless to say, to repair this costs around $1600.

Does anyone have any advice on how I should proceed with getting Jiffy Lube to pay for the damage? Do you think they will pay? Will my case hold in court? I have contacted the manager at Jiffy Lube and they would like me to bring in my car and inspect it.

Thanks!!Filter Change Gone Very Wrong?Type %26quot;Jiffy Lube Horror Stories%26quot; into google and you'll find tons of people who had problems very similar. It will be a long hard battle, and probably very frustrating - but if you keep at it and keep all you receipts and statements you should be able to win your case. If you plan to take this to court I would recommend a lawyer - as he/she can give you the best advice.Filter Change Gone Very Wrong?if you got it take it to lawyer thats what they were born forFilter Change Gone Very Wrong? You have to go in and tell them about the problem...don't stress till you find out what they say. Troy Built riding mower oil change?

I have run my 17 horsepower riding mower for the first 5 hours. Now it's time to change the oil and filter too. What kind and how much oil do I need? The only ore I take exception to is Pennzoil, I have seen some Pretty sorry looking engines run on that stuff.

Without the engine make and model it is hard to give a good answer.Troy Built riding mower oil change?I have a 20 hp briggs and straton motor that takes 2 quarts 10w30. As far as a brand if you keep the oil changed on a regular basis it does not matter. For the filter , if you don't have the manuel you can take the name and part number from the old one and cross reference it I had to take mine with me and just start opening boxes until I found the one that worked. The main thing is the diameter, if it is a little longer it will just take a little more oil. Make sure you when you are refilling it with oil you do not overfill. Just add and check until you are done. Then start the motor and let it run a few min. shut it off and check again. Good luck.Troy Built riding mower oil change? You need to find the manual for the engine. It will give you all the information you need.

Special chemicals in your oil breka down over time and when subjuected to the operating temps of yoru engine, without the additives, the oil does not maintain the correct viscosity, and can even boil in some parts of the engine, its meant to lubricate, and flow in tiny crevices, not be a thick gelatinous mass, or a vapor inside your engine, in addition, you will form the presence of sulfuric acid in your oil once its past its service life, you really dont wnat sulphuric acid in your engine.

Its cost 30 bucks to change your oil and filter, and about 12 if you do it yourself, you do it every 3000-6000 miles depending on the type of driving you do, its a tiny investment that will prevent you from making thousands of dollars in repairs from spinning bearings, seizing up piston rods, and replacing oil pumps.Hey, how often do you need to changed your oil filter in a car..?the oil light comes on before you start the car anyway, if it comes on whilst driving then take the car to a garage you may have an oil leak, you only need to do an oil change once a yrHey, how often do you need to changed your oil filter in a car..?Every 10,000 miles. If you ask nicely, HALFORDS will probably do the 'top up' for you.

If you take out the 'dip stick', (look for a small coloured grip/handle and just pull it straight up) at the bottom of the stick you will find a gauge which is about a litre of oil from top to bottom of the mark. Wipe the gauge to read it. Put it (the dipstick) back in then take it out aain to read it. DO THIS ON LEVEL GROUND AND AFTER THE ENGINE HAS STOPPED FOR A FEW MINUTES.Therefore if it's half way down the mark, only put in about half a litre of oil.

The filler is at the top of your engine. It may have a screw or just a baynet lock to turn. (Be carefull not to spill the oil down onto the engine Use a funnel or hold a piece or rag around the filler hole). Be careful not to drop anything else into the filler hole.

Type of oil is probably 10w 30. The 10w refers to a winter viscosity (oiliness) The 30 refers to the oil after it has warmed up. In HALFORDS they usally have booklets by the lubrcation sections where you can look up a spesific lubrcant/oil for any car.

If your oil warning light comes on when driving normally (don't worry if it lights while your engine is only ticking over, eg. when waiting at traffic lights) I should get it checked out AT ONCE. It may or may not be an expensive repair. You don't say how your car has been used or how many miles it had done. Or if it's diesel...

NEVER undo the radiator cap when the engine is warm. You'll scold yourself...Only top up with hot water in a hot engine...Hey, how often do you need to changed your oil filter in a car..?Oil and a filter should have been done in your last service. If your oil light comes on while driving it is telling you that the pressure is low. That means you need to put some more in, not get it or the filter changed.. Park your car on the level and then leave it with the engine turned off for about ten minutes. That will give the oil chance to run back down into the sump. That is where the bottom end of the dip stick sits. Get some oil, i don't know the correct grade, but any engine oil is better than no oil! Look for the dipstick which will be a thin rod sticking out of the side of the engine. It may have a little symbal of an oil can on it, or just be a bent piece of metal forming a handel for your fingers. Pull it out and wipe it with a cloth. Now look at the end and you should see two lines. They may even be labeled Min and Max. in at the bottom, and max at the top. They will only be about 12mm or half an inch apart. Put the dipstick back in the whole and take it out agin. You should now clearly see where the oil has come up to on the stick. I suspect yours will be below the min line. Bad girl!

At the top of the engine there will be a cap with oil written on it or a symbal of an oil can. It should be oily on the inside. Pour some oil in there. Pour in about half a pint, leave it for a minute, and then remove the dipstick, wipe it again, replace, take out and check the level again. If you are still below the max, do it again. If it has only moved a little, pour more in. But you don't want to over fill it. Don't put too much in. If you are not sure, either go to somewhere like Halfords and buy a Haynes Service and Repair Manual for your model of car and have a look through the frontat the weekly, monthly and so on checks. There are lots of simple jobs that should be done to keep your car going and reliable. Or, ask any male friends you have. To us it is like second nature, unless we are rich and pay for somebody else to do it:) But you need to top it up as soon as possible. You will cause damage to the engine if you keep running it low on oil.Hey, how often do you need to changed your oil filter in a car..?Some of the answers you are getting here can sevearly shorten your car's lifespan. I change mine every 3,000 miles, or about 3 times a year (oil %26amp; filter). I have driven millions of miles and never had a major engine failure. Clean oil is a cheap insurance policy against major failure. Car manufacturers suggest much higher change intravals, but they don't want your car to last forever. They want to sell you a new one. While 5-30 or 10-30 are usually recomended, I use 10-40 wt. oil.Hey, how often do you need to changed your oil filter in a car..?3000miles when u change your oil or every 3 months wutever comes firstHey, how often do you need to changed your oil filter in a car..?You explained that it has just been serviced it should have had an oil and filter changed and your light is coming on in not even 4 months, it does not sound good. You also need to find out if your oil light is also your oil pressure warning light, as you could have serious problems. If your oil is low on the dipstick then your car could be either burning it or headgasket problems or a bad leak, but if your oil on the dipstick is ok get it checked out asap as it could be serious.

If you use a good quality oil, you should not need to change the oil and filter for 10000 miles or 12 months whichever comes sooner. Do you have a service book that came with the car, it should mention in there the service frequency. Cars made after 1998 they came with better engines (your car falls into this) and some cars did not need to be serviced til 20000 miles.

I used to have a 2003 '53' Astra 1.6 SXI and my car was serviced every 10000 miles or 12 months.

Always change the filter when changing the oil, for the sake of 7 its piece of mind, what if you forgotten when the filter was last changed, at least if it's done at every oil change you know when it was last done.

Its also a good tip to use engine flush prior to an oil change as it gets all the thick deposits out when the old oil is drained off.

Halfords don't normally put oil in for you but it is easy to do yourselfHey, how often do you need to changed your oil filter in a car..?i change my filter every time i change my oil. they don,t cost that much and besides if you don,t then all your doing is keeping some dirty oil in it along with dirt. they say to change the filter every other time but i like clean oil in my engine.Hey, how often do you need to changed your oil filter in a car..?http://www.hydromake.com/Hey, how often do you need to changed your oil filter in a car..?I change my oil and oil filter after every 6,000 miles or 6 months

How important is it to put oil on the oil filter seal/gasket before you put it on?

I usually apply oil around the filter seal before I put it on, but I forgot to do it this time I changed my oil. When I started my car I didn't see any leaks, but could something happen anyway? How important is it to put oil on the oil filter seal/gasket before you put it on?Simply put, the oil is a lubricant to ensure that the gasket doesn't stick to the block when installing the filter(making it hard to turn). It ensures that you can simply hand tighten the filter without leaks. It doesn't aid in removal and is not a 100% necessary step.

NEVER install a filter with a wrench- you can damage the threads of the boss on the block.

As to filling the oil filter first, it is not a bad idea but is only really necessary on a turbocharged vehicle to get oil to the turbo as fast as possible after start up.How important is it to put oil on the oil filter seal/gasket before you put it on?The oil allows the filter to spin a little easier (and so you can tighten it a little bit MORE with bare hands).

If you don't see a leak don't worry.

    ====

It is NOT to create a seal (as many people think). If that was the reason, the oil seeping would seal itself.

    Good luck...

P.S. If you must, just tighten it with a oil wrench another 1/4 to 1/2 turn (but do NOT over tighten. With a tool like oil filter wrench it will seem loose - don't over tighten)How important is it to put oil on the oil filter seal/gasket before you put it on?well filter might be hard to get off also you should fill the filter with oil before you put it on so your engine doesn't have to start dry alot of people don't know to do this but you should always do this when changing oil

hope this helpedHow important is it to put oil on the oil filter seal/gasket before you put it on?oil helps seal the gasket and is a standard practice however if you dont see leaks dont touch it till its time for new filter. like they say if it aint broke dont fix itHow important is it to put oil on the oil filter seal/gasket before you put it on?Some will say that the oil helps seal the filter. I suppose an argument could be made for that. However the reason I find to be most important is that when you tighten the filter, there is a possibility to rip or damage the rubber seal. Putting a little oil on the seal prevents damage to the seal while your tightening it. Same principal is used on the bead of tires when mounting them onto rims.

Not critical but a good practice.

If you only drive on the highways, it will last MUCH longer than an oil change.

IF you leave on a dusty road, it will have to be changed more often than if you drive on the highway only.

The best bet is for YOU to open up the holder and look at it. IF it is dirty and/or clogged up with bugs and junk, it is time to change it. SOME air filters are cleanable. Are there any good websites that show step by step instructions to changing a car's oil and oil filter?

I've been taking my car in to be serviced every few months and everytime all they do is change the oil filter and oil and I pay at least $70 for it. Sure, it's nice to have them check everything else (lights, brakes, coolant etc.) but I can do that for free. The only thing is I would like to learn how to change the oil and oil filter on my own. I think it'd be much more efficient for me to do it and with driving a huge tank (02 chevy suburban) that gets 12 mpg on a good day, i need to save every cent possible.

anyway enough with explaining why I would like to learn how to do this, do you know any websites or have any tips for me?

thanks =]Are there any good websites that show step by step instructions to changing a car's oil and oil filter?Changing oil and the oil filter is a very easy thing to do. You will need a oil filter wrench, funnel and something to put the old oil in. First make sure it is on level ground and then find the oil plug to drain it out from, It will be below the engine. You will need a adjustable wrench or socket for this. Take the drain plug out but make sure the bucket is underneath the plug because it will start coming out as soo as it is loose enough. Once you have the plug out let it drain for 5-10 minutes and make sure all the oil is out. After that your gonna want to to take the oil filter off, you will need the oil wrench to losen the filter then you should be able to turn it by hand. There will be a good amount of oil that comes out of this too but not to much. Once the oil filter is out screw the drain plug back in and then tighten it with your wrench so its snug but do not over tighten it. Next you will put your new oil filter on but before you do put some of the old oil on the gasket of the new filter so it seals properly. Once the filter and drain plug and tighten you are done working underneath of the car. The final step is to poor in the new oil. Open up the cap and then you will probably have to use a funnel to poor the new oil in, poor it in slow and take your time so it does not spill out and then you are done. It sounds like a lot but once you do it, it will only take 15 minutes at the most. Have fun and always make sure the new oil fliter and the plug are in before you poor in the new oil because you don't it spilling right back out!Are there any good websites that show step by step instructions to changing a car's oil and oil filter?Cars, trucks and boats/Doityourself.comAre there any good websites that show step by step instructions to changing a car's oil and oil filter?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA989OnnX

How to do an oil change? honda civic lx 1998. I got oil an filter?

Alright Sparkles, I like your spunk! Love it when a girl works on her car!

Super easy, you'll need an oil pan to drain the old oil into, about 6 -8 bucks at Walmart. Do this when car has cooled down. Make sure it's parked on a level surface, Find the oil pan (bottom of engine) loosen the oil pan bolt, drain the old oil out, re tighten the bolt( very important) when it has finished draining. You will probably need an oil filter wrench to remove the oil filter, again at Walmart for about 6 bucks. After you loosen the filter keep unthreading it by hand, be careful, do it over the oil pan, it will still be full of oil! Dap a small amout of clean oil on the new rubber gasket on the top of the new oil filter, then tighten back up, by hand, then maybe a little more with the filter wrench, BUT not to tight!

Refill with new oil, 4 or 5 quarts, check your owners manual for the correct amount, don't overfill !, Check the oil dipstick. After all is complete, run and check for leaks! Have Fun!

FYI, you can go online at %26quot; Auto zone%26quot; and get more details and video on how to do it.How to do an oil change? honda civic lx 1998. I got oil an filter?this is how i do it on my car

i let the engine cooled down

jack up the front and put on jack stands

add some GUNK motor flush in my car(this really helps all those junk and sludges in the motor)

start engine and run for 5min

turn off and start taking out the oil drain plug bolt and get a oil pan

drain all oil out and put in back the drain plug(dont have to buy new one everytime, as long as its still good its reuseable)

take out oil filter and install in new oil filter(make sure the gasket of the old one comes out or else you will have a double headgasket with the new filter and blow up your engine)

    lower car down

refill in 3qts of 5-30w or 10-30w oil

then check dipstick to the readings where first dot is min and second dot is max(first is bottom second is top) so you wanna get closed to the max so you just keep adding some oil and check your dipstick til you get to that level.

    start car and test drive

good luckHow to do an oil change? honda civic lx 1998. I got oil an filter?Bigfoot is mostly right but with a Honda you will want a set of ramps to drive the front wheels up on because the filter is on the back side of the engine across from the firewall.

Also, something else he didn't mention: Always replace the washer under the drain plug and DON'T over-tighten the drain plug. If you do you will eventually mess up the threads on the oil pan and this will cause you a real problem down the road.

Also due to access problems with the filter, the best type of oil filter wrench is a cap type that you would use with a 3/8 inch ratchet. Make sure the wrench fits the brand of filter that you have or will purchase, Not all brands of filters take the same wrench. If you don't know what brand is already in the car you have a slight disadvantage. If worse comes to worse and you have trouble getting the old filter off, you can always drive a screwdriver through it and then twist it off but that is messy. Also when putting the new filter on usually it is sufficient just to tighten it as tight as you can with your hand without using a wrench. Always check for leaks afterward to be sure but I have never had a filter leak that I put on just with my bare hand. And when you take off the old filter make sure the rubber gasket comes off with it. It is rare but occasionally they will stick to the engine and if you put the new filter on with the old gasket still on there it will likely leak.

Other than that follow what Bigfoot said to do.

Follow Honda's recommendations for when to change the oil and what viscosity to use [likely 5W30] every 7500 miles. The 3000 mile oil change is a myth and is unnecessary.

When I change the oil filter on a Mercedes benz 380 SL, i read somewhere that I have to crank the engine to full oil pressure before starting the car. How do I do this?

Does anyone have a web page or something with a full procedure to change the oil filter?380SL Mercedes Benz 1984 Oil Filter help!?I personally dont think this is nescessary,Ive been a mechanic for 30 years and have only cranked an engine to raise oil pressure when its been totally rebuilt. If your just changing the oil and filter fit the filter and change the oil and start the engine, oil pressure will be up in a few seconds. If you feel uncomfortable with this and want to go by the book youll have to disable the engine firing,to do this you will have to disconnect the king lead from the distributorl or disconnect the low tension circuit from the coil. Then crank the engine untill the light goes out ,reconnect the ignition circuits and start normally. If you need the full procedure i recommend getting a haynes manual.380SL Mercedes Benz 1984 Oil Filter help!?the best way to do this is before fitting the new filter ,fill the new filter up with clean oil .

and start the car but dont rev it ! let the engine tick over until the oil warning light goes out .380SL Mercedes Benz 1984 Oil Filter help!?that is a bs theory. i worked in a lube shop for 14 years, never did that, unless the customer asked me to. and i never had a problem. the theory is this. an engine gets most of its wear due to low oil pressure at start up. after the oil is changed it takes a little bit longer for the engine to develop oil pressure. it does not matter if the ignition system is firing or not, the rings are still going to move in the same fashion.

How can you tell if the fuel filter is the original or if its been changed?

I know I had a fuel injection cleaning and a fuel filter changed but I recently went to get an oil change and the mechanic said that I still had the cars original part that had never been replaced. How can I tell? I have a 2000 Chevy MalibuHow can you tell if the fuel filter is the original or if its been changed? You really cant tell especially if they are using the same brand.

Best thing to do if you ever get it changed make a marking on the new that you know , so if someone ever tells you that it needs to be changed and changes it, ask them for the old one and find your marking. Some shops take advantage of woman, be careful. Also if you dump a fuel system cleaner every other month, and dont run your car on empty all the time..that will save your filters and your gas pump! Fuel system cleaners that you dump in your gas tank run about $5-$10 dollars. and tell your man to take care of these things ; )How can you tell if the fuel filter is the original or if its been changed?well.....if the store used a GM fuel filter it will be identical to the one they supposedly replaced so may be tough to prove anything. How can you tell if the fuel filter is the original or if its been changed?Fuel filter is cheap and easy to replace if you have a car lift --- like a auto-garage will.

The part only costs like 10 bucks and it should take them less than 5 minutes to swap them because they just plug-in.How can you tell if the fuel filter is the original or if its been changed?look for wrench marks on the nuts and bolts. Look for scrap marks on the fuel filter from tools. You always leave your mark when you work on something. Call the press cause you just meet superman. How can you tell if the fuel filter is the original or if its been changed?no way to really tell, I would say your oil change mechanic is just trying to drum up business for himself as if it was replaced with an origional filter from GM there would be no way to tell.
