I have a 306 diesel and need to change the front break pads on my 306. i have done regular maintenance on it and change the oil, filters etc etc and drained the coolant from the radiator etc etc. i have to haynes manual for this car so is it pretty easy to do. also is it worth doing the discs as well? How easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?Front pads should take an average 'kerbside' mechanic about 45 minutes per side once the wheels are off.- longer if you have the usual 4 cuppa's! Ensure the car is adequately supported remove the bolts securing the pads in place, then using a couple of large flat bladed screwdrivers gradually force the pads %26amp; piston back into the calliper ( alternating ends). Discs may require you to remove the calliper assembly with a splined drive socket - size 50 torx ( it did when I changed them on my 406 as the discs will not go over the hubs) If you do the discs as well - about 75-90 minutes per sideHow easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?simple enough but you may need certain tools to remove calipers before discs,in order to remove pads find a g clamp to push slowly the pistons back fully put in pads with a small amount of copper grease only on the rear of pads then remove full caliper to remove disc but be careful of just letting it hang by its rubber pipe. How easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?Just to add to the first answer re the discs - if they are wearing thin, have a lip all round the outer rim, are badly corroded or scored it is best to replace them at the same time as the pads. Not always easy to get them off without a puller but some do come straight off. refer to Haynes. How easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?Wow! Three good answers already.
Only a little to add.
Rotors have a minimum thickness, usually stamped on them.
Your rotors may be able to be skimmed if they have suitable thickness left.
They should have no lips, discolouration, grooves etc
Make sure your replacement pads look identical to the ones on your car before getting too far into the job (ie check as soon as you get a wheel off). There are often different pads and the shop may not have got it right....

Honda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?
I'm not a mechanic by any means...I'm good with changing oil, brake pads, spark plugs, some belts and could do an alternator....but I'm not certain if I should try the transmission fluid or take it to a garage???? Also, I looked in my Haynes book and seems like the fuel filter sits on top of the fuel tank and I will have to go back and look but I think I remember reading something about a hatch under the back seat to change the fuel filter so you don't have to drop the tank. Anyone ever try these two things and how difficult would it be??Honda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?Personally, I don't think a 2002 needs a gas filter change. I wouldn't bother.
As for transmission fluid, I would change it at about the 75,000 mile mark.
First, purchase only fluid made for that vehicle from the dealer - don't buy a generic substitute at the auto store! The Honda's are very fussy about the fluid. I wouldn't take a chance on ruining the trans by buying a cheap replacement fluid.
It is very easy to change it. Just put a catch pan under the trans and remove the plug to drain the fluid. It is true that you will not drain 100% of the fluid this way, but replacing 80% of it gives your trans mostly new fluid in it. This is what I do. The service stations try to sell you a flushing of the system, but it is expensive (they have to pay for the expensive machine).
If you are really concerned about getting all of the old fluid out you can flush it yourself. Here's how: Buy twice the amount of fluid (8 containers instead of 4). Find the trans inlet cooling tube on the bottom of the radiator and crack it open to allow fluid to escape. Start the car and let it idle while filling with new fluid. When you think half of the fluid has been passed through, secure the cooling tube and top off the fluid. It's still a lot cheaper than having a flush done.Honda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?if you don't know how to change it, take it to mavis tires or somewhereHonda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?alot of times with a 'drain and fill' method for switching up ur tranny fluid, you will only end up replacing about 50-75% of the fluid, is your trans auto or manual? If it's an auto, I would reccomend just bringing it into a quick lube shop, most of them have t-tec machines that go straight into the dipstick hole, and will replace 100% of the trans fluid. Also, for your fuel filter, I can't remember if the 2002's still have the fuel filter located under the hood by the firewall, if your FF is there, it is an extremely easy job to do, you will just need some open box end wrenches, and vice gripsHonda civic 2002 LX transmission fluid change and fuel filter?dude dont do it your self, tranny is something you dont wanna mess with, unless you have money for a new one... I think you have to blow and flush all the fluid out b4 you put in the new one, its not like changing motor oil so just take it to the dealer so you have the warranty on it aswell

I want to ask about my oil filter?
ok i change my oil today and the oil was dark black but one thing was the oil filter was not dirty i mean i replace my oil every 3,000 miles and i all ways take the oil filter out and change it but its not dirty the oil filter this is the 3rd time that the oil filter is clean and i know the oil have to go in the oil filter to clean the oil when the engine runs but its clean no dark old oil in the filter is there something wrong with my oil pump how i know if its not working right and its a fram oil filterI want to ask about my oil filter? If your oil pump is not working your car would not run thirty miles, let alone three thousand miles. Yourloil filter looks good because you are changing it every three thousand miles like you are supposed to. Don't worry about it. it might seem clean if you look at it on the outside, but inside the filter is where you would see the stuff the filter is filtering. This has happened to me too.I want to ask about my oil filter?I don't know what kind of car you have, but I would look at the oil filter bypass valve in the oil filter neck. It may be stuck open and allowing oil to bypass the filter.I want to ask about my oil filter?i agree you have a flow issue, the bypass valve is stuck open not allowing oil onto the oil filter once it is filled up. the problem is not necessarily the pump or the filter. depending on what type of car you are driving, the location of this bypass valve can be very easy to get to.myspace pages horrible cat

How can I tell if my oil pump is going out?
I have an 01 Mitsubishi Galant 4 cylinder and my oil light only comes on when the car has been driven for a while and only when at idle. If I am at a light sitting it flickers and as soon as I start to go it shuts off. Any suggestions? I have changed my oil/filter and all levels are good. How can I tell if my oil pump is going out?If it bothers you check the oil pressure sensor and replace it if it's off. It that doesn't work just keep driving until it burns up.
The reason the pressure goes low is due to excessive wear around the oiled engine parts. Oil is leaking past where it used to just (seep) into. All you can do to fix it is a major overhaul or replace the engine. How can I tell if my oil pump is going out?Well, it sounds like your 8 year old car is starting to show some wear. Check with your own mechanic to be sure, but I'd say unless you are hearing valve chatter, the characteristic %26quot;tick tick tick%26quot; sound at an idle, I wouldn't worry about it too much. You could try a slightly heavier weight oil, if you're using 5-30 you might go to 10-40 for example.
I doubt it's the oil pump, they generally are a %26quot;pass/fail%26quot; thing and either work or don't. And if you had a problem with a dirty pick up screen, it would starve out for oil at any speed, not just at idle. How can I tell if my oil pump is going out?Yeah, just to a straight 40 weight unless you live in a really cold climate. there are oils now for high mileage vehicles that do a good job. they're available at all the auto parts stores. Drive it until the rods start knocking. How can I tell if my oil pump is going out?All ya gotta do is not idle the engine. There, I fixed it fur ya. Ok seriously, everybodies right, except the one about changing the oil press sensor. If you want to verify that the flickering light is in fact accurate you would plumb in a calibrated oil press guage and verify what the oil pressure actually is at idle. Not hard to do and doesn't cost nothing if you have a friend with a guage and the know how to plumb it into your system to do a quick check. How can I tell if my oil pump is going out?Put in thicker oil and keep driving. How can I tell if my oil pump is going out?you can tell alright ! after awhile you will hear a knocking noise if it goes out. if your engine sounds ok then it,s probably the oil pressure sending unit.

How do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?
I had a oil change/filter yesterday at JIFFY LUBE i DONT KNOW TO MUCH ABOUT CARS.... but i read my fuel perceantage on how it was at 44 percent good on my 2008 cobalt LT.... so when i was done geting my oil changed.. I looked at it expecting to see it at 100 percent it wasnt .still at 44 %..so i figured maybe there was still...old oil in the valves... but i went on a trip..150 miles still read 44%at the end when i came home.. and this morning when.. to went to the store the oil still read at 44 percent good..does this mean i was dupped%26gt;%26gt;/? and didnt change the oil..i did drive 150 miles and did expect the oil percentage to be at 100 percent but isnt..?.. or is there a way i can check if they did do the services i paid for..? and how much oil should have put in there.. im thinking they might of have just drained half and put half of what i paid for...reason why it reads 44%?still.. my vehicle is 2008 cobalt lt sedan.
how much liters of oil shoudl have beeen put in? and how do i check the air filter to see if it has been replaced? How do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?No, it just means they didn't reset the computer. To tell if they changed the oil or not, just pull the dipstick and look at the oil on it. Fresh oil is sort of a clear/amber liquid, looks about like honey, just thinner. Old oil will be almost black, like tar (won't be thick like tar, or if it is you got SERIOUS problems). You just need to reset the oil life meter, it tells you how in your car owners manual. Some of them have a button under the dash to push, some use the accelerator pedal, and a few even use the car stereo to reset it. You need to check the oil regardless, just to make sure the Jiffy Lube guys filled it completely. How do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?Here a little trick i learned from an old timer. To find out if your car needs an oil change. Drive it around a bit to let the oil circulate. Take it back to your driveway. Get a white piece paper. Pull your dip stick out and let the oil drip onto the paper. Let it soak up on the paper. The paper acts as filter. If it looks dark with dirty particles change the oil. If it looks somewhat clean and no dirty particles, no oil change needed. How do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?all these new cars that give you a oil life percentage have to be reset. they probably did change your oil, they just forgot to reset your message display. to check your air filter open your hood and look for a black box probably the size of a shoe box there should be a couple of clips to hold the top to the bottom when you un clip them youll be able to see if your air filter is nice and clean. your best bet is to just find a good mechanic that you can trust! How do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?pull out the oil dipstick, you can check the status of your oil, you will see a clear oil..
you will see a clean oil filter if you check under the hood or under the car.
have you try to reset the metering system??How do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?Why don't you call Car Talk on Saturday? They can help!
Call 1-888-CAR-TALK (888-227-8255)How do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?get some body to show you a few things under the hood/check book on how to reset the gauges/i believe its done through the radioHow do I know if they..actually changed my oil...?The oil life indicator that you are talking about, requires that it be reset after an oil change. Apparently they failed to do this and it is not reflecting that the oil has been changed. Pull the dip stick for the oil and look at what is on the stick. It should appear to be clean oil or close to it. If not , return to the place where you had the service done and have them correct the issue and reset the oil life indicator. GM vehicles will reset by following the procedure in the owners manual under maintenance. Good Luck
