Car needs ECU after tune up/oil change/fuel filter change?

I keep reading that ECUs are not interchangable but how do I found out which one I need (95 mitsu eclipse 2.0 DOHC) I am having MORE work done to my car, but I am still deciding if it is worth doing for I am already in for $443 for work done w/towing and would rather not shell out another $200 (estimated)

From the little info I have seen there are three choices for my engine but I havent a clue if all three will plug in but have a 33% chance of having it be the correct one. I am trying to become informed on the repairs and want more knowledge before I tell the mechanic to proceed with the repairs. I would hate to find out he replaced the ECU with one that will do the job for a small amount of time.

I am hoping for reassurance that ONLY the correct ECU will fit and start my car. Thanks in advance to any and all the take the time to replyCar needs ECU after tune up/oil change/fuel filter change? It's true ECUs are not interchangeable, but that should not mean you'll have trouble finding it, because there should be only one choice for your car, model and engine. It might depend on which Eclipse you have, i.e. GS, GST, GSX, or RS. I suggest going to www.rockauto.com. Then just select your car, etc..., and under the electrical category, go to the engine control module (computer). They list the choices there, as well as the OEM model #. Look at the number on yours, and the one that matches is the correct one.

On another note... Some details of your story seem to be missing, but it sounds like a typical sheisty mechanic to me... You bring it in, have some work done, and with your car at the mercy of being towed, they tell you you need this and that expensive crap too or your car's gonna blow, etc...

Some important information is missing here though... Like why was the car being brought in for a tune-up? Tune up stuff like plugs, wires, filters, etc... are good to do when needed, but they are not the cause of stranding you, just poor performance/efficiency. I'm assuming that somehow it's been explained to you that the ECU is what stranded you...and yeah that could be, but I'd wonder how that was determined...and if the problem was the ECU, then why was the tune up stuff done?

Another thing...you are trying to figure out which ECU is usable, but you're afraid of the mechanic putting in one which won't last? I don't know if you plan on doing just that part yourself....but either way, if the mechanic doesn't know which ECU to get, then he/she's sure out to lunch, and someone who would never see my car again. If you're thinking of perusing the salvage yards, then again, there should be a model # on the ECU itself, and if that's the same, it's the same unit. But again, you said your main purpose is reassurance that only the correct ECU will fit and start your car... That's true, but it shouldn't be relevant. There is no benefit to trying to find a different-than-original ECU, unless you found a cheap one on ebay or something.Car needs ECU after tune up/oil change/fuel filter change?yes only the correct engine control unit will work,, my question is my does it need one after a tuneup. is there a problem with the one you have, if there is then any problems you are having may be the ecu not the spark plugs and oil filter.i would sugjest having someone preform this for you since replacing an ecu requires care to protect against static electricity. that will dammage a new ecu

Oil Change and Shifting Gears Issues for GZ250?

    Hi,

I own 2003 Suzuki GZ250 from last 2 months. I drove around 1500 miles on that. I make oil changes to my car regularly, but when it comes to motorcycle oil change I never did it. The oil looks dirty, so I thought to change oil %26amp; filter. I went to Advance Auto Parts store to look for oil filter %26amp; oil. The closest I found was for “250CC-GS250 (1980-1981)” of Fram filter CH6000 and oil is 10W40.

Can anyone tell me is that Fram CH6000 oil filter is any good for GZ250? And what about 10W40 oil, the manual says use 10W40, any suggestions on that ? Please let me know is there any online website , that you can order oil filters and what that filter model is ? (I live 60 miles north to Atlanta, GA. Any stores around this area? )

Another question is , some times when I shift gears, I feels like it got stuck and I have to slam the gears, does anyone got that problem ?

Is 10W40 oil has impact on how gear system works ? Is there any better oil ?Oil Change and Shifting Gears Issues for GZ250?A Suzuki GS250 was a 250cc twin; the early 80's GN250 engine is exactly like yours. I don't think there is a replaceable oil filter in the GN/GZ model, but a metal mesh strainer? If it is, you would clean it with gasoline.

I'd use a motorcycle specific engine oil. These little motors don't hold much, and if you spend $10 on oil every 3000 miles, it'll last a long time.

I normally use a 20w-50 oil on any air-cooled engine. If your shifting problem doesn't go away after you replace the oil, check first the clutch free play. If that's okay, you may have some bent shifter forks. Better brush up on the service manual.Oil Change and Shifting Gears Issues for GZ250?Go with Amsoils motorcycle specific 10w-40.

They most likely have an oil filter for your application as well. Just go to the application guide and plug in your year model and make.

Also, go to the dealer, or online for your filter. The engine is claose, but may not be exactly the same. How to change oil and filter chevrolet 2006 HHR?

Well on the HHR and cobalt u change the filter 1st its accually located under the hood. Its on the right side infront of the head, and its a cartige style filter I dont remember the socket size off the top of my head to get it off but I think its 1 1/16 but dont quote me. After u get that off u replace the filter and reinstall. Then drain your oil underneath out of the oil pan and that is a 13 mm plug, reinstall plug. And the ecotec takes 5qts or 5w-30How to change oil and filter chevrolet 2006 HHR?Changing the oil and filter on any car is the same.

Check your owners manual for the recommended type and weight and amount of oil for your engine.

Using a drain pan to catch the oil remove the drain plug from the bottom of the oil pan using a ratchet with the correct sized socket.

Drain all of the old oil.

Once it is drained clean the drain plug and oil pan with a clean rag.

Replace drain plug and tighten, not to tight, but tight.

    Remove the oil filter.

Clean the mating surface that the oil filter screws onto with your rag.

Take your new oil filter and using your finger tip coat the rubber seal on the new oil filter with clean motor oil.

Screw the new filter onto the engine, hand tighten, as tight as you can get it with your hands.

Next refill the engine with the correct number of quarts of motor oil.

Start the engine and make sure the oil light on the dash goes out.

With the engine running look under the car and check for leaks.

    Turn the engine off.

Take your old oil and pour it into a empty gallon jug, empty washer fluid bottles work great for this.

Take your old oil filter and turn it upside down into your funnel that is in your empty used oil jug and drain the old oil out of the filter.

Double bag the oil filter in plastic store bags and throw away.

Take your used oil to a quick lube and have it recycled.

Tools you will need are automotive ramps, a drain pan, a filter wrench that fits your sized oil filter and a socket set and 2 funnels, one for clean oil and one for used oil.

I use 2 different colored funnels so I know that the blue one is for used oil and the red one is for clean oil.

If you buy the 5 qt jug of motor oil you can use that jug for your old oil.

  • How often should I change oil when using 10W-30 Mobil1?

I have a 1996 VW Jetta GL, I just started using Mobil1 full synthetic. I am a city driver almost exclusively and put up about 750 miles a month. I was thinking maybe changing the filter every 3000 and the oil every 5? The manual says 7500 but I really want to keep this car in good shape. Thanks! How often should I change oil when using 10W-30 Mobil1?I think the answers you have gotten below have not addressed the fact that you are using a fully synthetic oil. Mobil 1 can last much longer than every 3000 miles or even every 5000 miles. I would go for at least every 6000 miles with a new filter everytime. If you don't like my suggestion, do your homework on oil at http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/uHow often should I change oil when using 10W-30 Mobil1?Even the best oil gets dirty. you should change the oil AND filter every 3 months or 3000 miles. withchever comes first. How often should I change oil when using 10W-30 Mobil1?It depends how and where you drive: change it when it looks and feels dirty.

Also it depends on how and where you drive. Toyota recommend changing engine oil and filter every 5,000 miles. But I think that is for IDEAL driving condition. Does anyone out there know how to change the oil filter on a 1980 suzuki gs750l?

Isn't that the kind where the oil filter is between the center two exhausts? It's small, about two and a half inches across, and right where you burn your knuckles on the hot exhaust, right? I love Suzis, but I'm not thrilled with this design feature.

Changing the oil is not difficult, but it could be a good thing to have a Chilton's or Hayne's to guide you.

I'm thinking about getting a 2000-2003 Tundra. How much harder is it to change the oil compared to a Dodge?

I have a 1992 Dodge Dakota, my sister drives a 2000 Ford Focus, Mom drives a 2000 Dodge Caravan and Dad has a 1999 Chevy Silverado. Of the ones listed, the Focus is the hardest to change because the filter is in some really stupid spot. My Dakota is not far off because it's so high up there.

Sooo, is the Toyota Tundra pretty comparable or easier to change oil and filter than any of the ones I already know?I'm thinking about getting a 2000-2003 Tundra. How much harder is it to change the oil compared to a Dodge?Easy. The filter is not hard. If its a V8 it is under the skid plate which is held on by 5 12MM bolts. When you take that off the filter is right in front of you and is very easy to take off. The drain plug is cake. it sits right in on the oil pan and points down with nothing blocking it.

If its an early V6(5VZ-FE) 4WD then its hard as the oil filter is in a high point of the engine and can be hard to get to as there is stuff in the way. The drain plug is still easy. If its a later V6(1GR-FE) then its the easiest as the filter sits right on top near the filler. There is a plug on the bottom of the filter housing that you remove and put a bottle under to catch the oil that comes from the filter. After that the drain plug is just like the other ones. It is the easiest of them all.I'm thinking about getting a 2000-2003 Tundra. How much harder is it to change the oil compared to a Dodge?I used to not like changing the oil on the Dodge/ Jeep 5.2 engines because the oil would drain onto some pipe or something, and splash all over the place, and I just wanted to say that so you don't think I have some kind of bias; just being straight up honest here. The Toyota Tundra's aren't a picnic either, in fact, I think they're slightly worse, because the filter is in the front, above a plastic or metal panel, so you need to remove the panel, or reach down from up above. I worked at an oil change place, and the panels were so time consuming to remove and re-install, that we'd use the second method, which sucked, because you can't see the filter from above, and oil would leak down onto the panel, and slowly drip out after the truck was driven away. The best engines to do oil changes on were diesels, because the filters were mounted vertically, and oil would never spill all over the place. The worst engines were Nissans: their filters were a NIGHTMARE to replace. I did do an oil change on a Dodge RAM SRT10 with the 500hp Viper engine: it was very smooth. I quit around June of '05, and I don't remember having done any oil changes on the 5.7 Hemi engines. Dodges are easier.

I overfilled my car engine with motor oil and did not change the oil filter. Can this damage my car?

A few months ago, I noticed my oil was low, so I bought 5 qts of cheap oil and added it to my engine instead of taking it for an oil change. It ran fine for the past few months..This weekend I had my water pump, serpentine, and timing belts changed. The mechanic told me, the motor oil was overfilled and recommended I get an oil change. There wasn't any oil leak. So today I had a high mileage oil change at WalMart. They also told me my oil was over filled when they checked it, and that I have an oil leak.Again, yesterday there was no leaks. Now I have a big oil leak, and my car shuts off when I am idle. What could have happened? Did walmart mess up my oil change? or could it have been the mechanic who changed my belts? or am I to blame for being cheap and changing my oil myself and overfilling it without changing the filter?.Also how do I fix this. Please HelpI overfilled my car engine with motor oil and did not change the oil filter. Can this damage my car?overfilling is just as bad as not enough. and you should always change the oil filter whenever you change the oil. just unscrew your oil plug and let some run out, into a container or course.I overfilled my car engine with motor oil and did not change the oil filter. Can this damage my car?Overfilling the oil can damage the piston rings among other things. I suggest draining the oil to the correct level. I would never change the oil without changing the filter. You car must have been almost empty of oil to require that much oil.I overfilled my car engine with motor oil and did not change the oil filter. Can this damage my car?1 stop trying to blame others for your lack of car care

2 sometimes stuff happens..[ie you walk into a room,,turn on lite,,bulb blows...whos fault? no one]

3 overfilling oil can cause leaks,,bearing damage,,,

4 maybe you need tune up.....I overfilled my car engine with motor oil and did not change the oil filter. Can this damage my car?You live and learn by your mistakes, check your valve covers and clean up the engine to isolate the leak. And do what you can to fix.I overfilled my car engine with motor oil and did not change the oil filter. Can this damage my car?Yes it can damage your seals and you need to look to find the source of the leak the first two areas would be the drain plug bolt area sometimes when being replaced after removal it might not be as tight as it is supposed to be or it was over tightened and stripped, second area would be to look around the new filter area if their is oil leaking around where it is mounted in may not be on as tight as it should be, I have witnessed many times that the technician may have not removed the old filter seal and put another one on meaning you have two seals and the oil could be leaking from that area, the QUALITY OF A 6.00$ AN HOUR EMPLOYEE AT WALL MART or any other company is risky at best, go back to wall mart do not let any one touch the car except because you stated they changed the oil and you did not have a leak prior to the change ask them to re inspect the bolt on the drain pan and the filter area, ask them if the can determine the area where the oil may be coming from if it is a steady leak the should be able to (with flashlights) to determine where it may be coming from, also be Leary if the striped the bolt many times the will not tell you because they were the last company to work in that area and they do not want to eat the repair if needed. Take notes of what they tell you so you can see if they are contradicting any of their responses to you. I do know over filling the oil can lead to many problems with several Items. What kind of car and engine do you have and did the oil leak start after the water pump was changed .. but by all means you need to determine where is the leak coming from that is the starting point ,then we can determine at what stage or part of the repair that may have caused this leak

Remember since you are losing oil check the oil level first thing in the morning before you start the car, you may have to add a little oil to get to your next destination and this is serious as if the oil is dripping on the exaust area it could cause you car to catch on fire.

E-mail me and I will give you my phone # so I can chat with you about this

HAVE A GOOD DAY, JackI overfilled my car engine with motor oil and did not change the oil filter. Can this damage my car?You did this but go and blame wallmart for your lack of knowledge.

  • How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?

I discover oil leakage from my car oil filter and my oil level is now btw L and F of the oil guage. This was due to improper tighten of the filter which I have rectified now i.e proper tighten now. My meter reads 1500km from last service date. Should I change the oil now or top it to the F mark? Pls advise me.

ThanksHow frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?Do what your car's owner's manual says to do. It tells you what maintenance intervals. The fuel filter can go as long as 80,000 miles as long as you haven't ever run out of fuel and emptied the fuel tank. That causes the fuel filter to plug up and it needs replacing then. How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?just fill it to the oil mark. the proper oil change should be done at 3000 to 3500 miles(not into kilometers) ok fuel filter on new car as in brand new first 5000mi. then every 15000mi.(unless it's done by toyota's service standards- which they require every 10000mi. that's why they last as long as they do. belts every 15000 to 20000mi. brakes every 20000 to 25000mi. anti freeze every 25000 to 30000mi. spark plugs every 25000 to 30000mi. transmission every 25000mi. differentials every 20000 to 25000mi. if you do this type of maintenance on your vehicle it will last you up to 10 to 15 years. because you will still need to do other types of work. that can't be done unless you have all the tools necessary. and proper work place. How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?Do you mean the oil guage indicator on the dipstick? If so yes, fill your oil up to the full mark. Make sure to use the correct oil.

If your not on about the F mark on the dipstick then Ive never heard of an oil guage in a car apart from the oil pressure and temperature guage which is completely different that doesn't relate to your oil LEVEL.

Top the oil up, the oil should be changed usually every 10,000/15,000km since last change. Check your owners manual!!!How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?Top it off, you should be fine. If you were only loosing a small amount of oil over a long amount of time then there really isn't the possibility of dirt getting into the loose filter...so I would simply top it up to the full line.

What's this about fuel filter...? Did you want to know when you should change your fuel filter too? If so, this can largely depend on the quality of gas you are getting for your car...it's pretty common to replace a fuel filter every 60,000km - 100,000km (or 40,000m - 60,000miles)How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?Oil need to be change based on oil type u have use, more good oil quality as synthetic oil will be more longer to ur next oil change. And oil filter need to be change for every 10000 km and if u change ur oil type and or brand, evasive unlucky reaction from the chemical in the oil. For ur case, if ur last service has include oil changing, then u only need to add same oil to F level. How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter? If you are ever unsure do the safest and cleanest option available, IE change your oil. Then write down your mileage and put that in the glove box. You should change regular oil every 3 months or 5,000 miles and for synthetic blends change every 4 or 5 months or 6,000+ miles. How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?unless you drive under extreme conditions (dust, high heat, heavy traffic, extreme cold, towing) you should only need to change your oil every 8000km. just refill it and keep track of the level, but don't worry about it.How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?replace oil 5000 miles or before

fuel filter once a year best but depends on where its at most in tank last a long time does need it til you have a problem with it

if its tiem to replace oil change it if not just add to top offHow frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter? If you can afford it then do the filter and oil change now then every 3000 miles is the suggested interval for optimal engine life. How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?Just top it off. Change the oil when it's due again. How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?change it every 10,000 milesHow frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?your car manual will tell you when to change oil

How often do you change diesel oil?

5.9 cummins running mobil 1 15w-40 been changing oil and filter every 3000 miles. I was told by an autozone employee i dont have to change it but every 10000? Whats the deal? How often do you change diesel oil?First you should get the owners manual and read it, No you should not run synthetic since it is not engineered for diesel, When you change the filter you should change the oil, If you change the filter but not the oil, that dirty oil with shorten you oi filters life, And its apparent that the autozone employee is not a dodge mechanic. You wait every 7 or 10 k to change the oil you will fry that engine early

    Read this

    http://www.dieselworldmag.com/content/vi

and this, and use severe duty schedule

http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/filter/oil_How often do you change diesel oil?7000 is about right...How often do you change diesel oil?Read your owners manual and in the service and maintenance section you will have to schedules, the severe schedule is specified for certain driving habits as is the moderate schedule. most drivers may find that the have a balance of driving habits that could fit into both categories. When in doubt follow the manufacturers recommendations for severe maintenance. However if you are servicing your own vehicle I highly recommend that you keep an date and mileage specific log with appropriate checklists as well as receipts for oils and filters etc...Failure to provide this info can result in losing your manufacturers warranty should a problem ever arise. remember the diesel engine is warranted for If I remember correctly it is 6 years or 100,000 miles whichever comes first. but when in doubt the owners manual is the best resource for information and unfortunately the least read. How often do you change diesel oil?Mobil 1 is designed to go more than 3000 miles. However some of the oil is labeled 10 or 15000 mile oil and others just say mobile 1. The higher mileage says it is different oil but im not sure on that. Now last thing to consider have you owned the truck since it was new? How dirty is the inside of the eng? If you change your oil and its really black even after a new oil change? You may want to consider these things and use your best judgment how often to change it. I run my gas 5.9 10,000 miles every oil change with mobile 1 but ive had it since it was new and always taken vary good care of it. If your oil is coal black or very dark brown id change it. Remember color doesn't not always imply the oil viscosity is still there so just check it often and use your besjudgmentnt! How often do you change diesel oil?Dodge recommends 15W40 motor oil that meets API Service CI-4/SH. Below Zero operation 5W40 synthetic is recommended.

For just normal everyday driving, change the oil and filter at 7500 mile intervals. Since diesels are not typically normal everyday drivers, but are designed for hard work, that schedule is cut in half.

Since no recommendation is made by Dodge for a 10,000 mile oil change, I wouldn't waste money on oil that supposedly lasts 10,000 miles when there are many brands that meet the specifications at half the price. Your 3000 mile interval is OK, as it falls within dealer recommendations. How often do you change diesel oil?The first thing I would do is get away from the Mobil 1 oil on your cummins. Every one I've owned I've ran Shell Rotella in with no problems and a 5-10K mile oil change interval. If you're doing strictly in-town driving, then 3-5K miles wouldnt be out of reason. As far as the color, and diesel with blowby will darken the oil almost immediately after a oil change. This is caused by exhaust gases entering the crankcase. The mobil 1 is not a bad oil to run in it, and I run it in all my gas engines, but for 11 qts of mobil 1, you can buy rotella a whole lot cheaper and it lasts just as good. How often do you change diesel oil?ya, anyone who says 3000 miles just wants your money. 6000 miles minimum. Synthetics can go 10-20k miles depending on conditions

Is it really safe to use biodiesel on car? how often do i have to change the oil filter?

what should i do in winter? what cars can run biodiesel? do i need any modification (rubber lines, separate tank, infector and etc. ? finally, can old VW and mercedse benz run with biodiesel?

Thank you so much i very appreciate. Is it really safe to use biodiesel on car? how often do i have to change the oil filter? If they are diesel engines . Do not put bio-diesel into a gasoline engine as it will ruin it.Is it really safe to use biodiesel on car? how often do i have to change the oil filter?I think you'll quickly discover that small automobile diesels are exceedingly finicky in the matter of fuel, and that the warranties on the fuel system are voided when you use anything but approved fuels, one of which is not home-made bio-diesel.

Apparently someone must be out there selling bio-diesel digester setups and telling everyone that they can run any car with the product. Bio-diesel is a more practical proposition for large diesels of the sort used for power generation, ship and large truck propulsion, and perhaps some aircraft and construction equipment. Is it really safe to use biodiesel on car? how often do i have to change the oil filter?Any diesel engine will run on bio-diesel. The fuel filter will need to be changed after the first 1000-1500 miles of bio-diesel use. This is due to the fuel cleaning out the engine, and all the dirt being caught by the filter. Once this has been done, the filter should be changed every service (as normal).

What to do in winter depends upon the type of oil you are processing, and your global location. In the UK, for example, it is best to avoid palm oil alltogether, and to mix 50/50 diesel/bio-diesel over the colder months.

No modification is required for diesel engines to run on bio-diesel. You may, on older vehicles, need to change any natural rubber pipes/hoses/seals to synthetic rubber (this should have been done in the last 11 years anyway!) Modification is required, however, for neat vegetable oil- hence an element of confusion amongst some people.

Old VW and Mercs definitely run on Bio-diesel- a friend of mine runs his 8year old VW Golf on 80%, and Mercedes warranty their vehicles for bio-diesel in Switzerland.

    Hope all that helps.

  • How do you change the oil and filter on 2 litre Honda CRV (X Reg) and what is the best oil?

I have just bought an X Reg (2000) 2 litre CRV and need to change the oil and filter and have no idea how to do this. Does the drain plug need any special tools? How do you change the oil and filter on 2 litre Honda CRV (X Reg) and what is the best oil?It isn't worth it to change your own oil and filter anymore, bring it to any/most car service places and they will do it for something like 20 bucks. That is almost how much the oil and filters cost themselves, they also usually do a free checkup on your fluids, tires, and brakes.

If you have to do it on your own, you have to drain the oil from the plug in the oil pan, a flat rectangular piece on the bottom of your engine, filters generally screw on and off, just look for the piece that looks like the one you bought, it is a round cylinder, usually white or orange.

Also Here is a guide I found if you want to do it yourself:

Get a real car.How do you change the oil and filter on 2 litre Honda CRV (X Reg) and what is the best oil?Take it to a Honda dealer and ask them to use fully synthetic oil.

DIY is not on unless you have ramps, socket set, oil filter removal tool a bowl for the oil etc. The drain plug may be an external hexagon (hence socket set) or it may have a square female plug. For the latter you need a multipurpose sump plug tool, from Halfords.

If you are keen on car DIY buy the Haynes Manual 20 in Halfords as it will guide you through the process, safely. How do you change the oil and filter on 2 litre Honda CRV (X Reg) and what is the best oil?just for the record in all your famalies car maintenance, underneath your cars engine you wil see a bolt that is easily identifiable by looking for a washer between said bolt and engine, this is a copper washer that needs to be replaced after undoing as its a pressure washer that gets compressed when tightened up so as a result needs replacing avoiding horrible stained drive ways or paving...as to the filter, this will be the object facing to the bottom of your engine as it does just the description and if all else fails a screwdriver through it turning anti clockwise will do the job..be aware its always best to change filter after the sump plug/bolt has been removed for fear of oil everywhere and finally,do it with a warm engine,NOT HOT BUT AFTER NORMAL OPERATING TEMP LEAVE TO COOL AT THIS TIME OF YEAR FOR ONE AND A HALF HOURS AND THEN LET OIL OUT,IT WILL BE QUICKER AND MAKE SURE ALL OF THEW OLD OIL IS OUT..USE SLICK 50 ON THIS CHANGE AS AN EXTRA FOR LONGER LIFE AND ENGINE WARE AND ANY GOOD OIL..MOBIL ONE,CASTROL WILL DO..BEST OF LUCK ME..

How do i change oil on a 90 suzuki outboard?

i need to know how to change oil filter and should i use synthetic oilHow do i change oil on a 90 suzuki outboard?I have heard horror storeys of synthetic oil eating away at the seals and gaskets of older 4 stroke engines but you would think that a 4 stroke rev-ing at 6000rpm + could take advantage of the higher quality synthetic. I would go for it. To change your oil filter, you have to pull the engine cowl. Remove the pin from the latch and the 8 bolts on the starboard side of the mid section to separate the 2 haves. Now you can get to the oil filter. How do i change oil on a 90 suzuki outboard?Definitely use synthetic if you have a 4 stroke---Now the other question. I assume the motor is a 4 stroke. there are 2 ways to do it. Through the crank case plug under the motor. Less messy is to go through the same place you fill the oil--where the dipstick is and pump it up with a pump you will have to buy.

1991 Honda Civic DX Oil Filter Change?

Hello. I have a 1991 Honda Civic DX 2 door hatchback with a 1.5 liter engine, could anyone give me detailed instructions on how to change the oil filter, It seems to be in quite a hard spot. Thanks1991 Honda Civic DX Oil Filter Change?the best way to get to your oil filter is when the car is lifted. raise the car on jackstands and slide under the car. when you are right under the car place yourself directly under the motor. if you look behind the motor your oil filter should be visible. it should be a blue filter if you had your service done at honda. if not it should be white or orange. most filters should be hand tightened, but get stuck a bit after normal use. so a oil filter wrench should help. just loosen it a bit and catch the dripping oil with a oil pan/container. once it starts flowing just take it out. good luck.1991 Honda Civic DX Oil Filter Change?the oil filter located behind the block near the firewall. usually you can reach and twisted by hand (lefty loosy, righty tighty). if you cant break the oil filter loose, use a oil filter wrench. g/l

  • Does anybody knows how to change the transmission oil filter for a chevy Malibu 1998?

I want to change the filter of the transmission, but i don't know how to do it, please can somebody help me. my car is a Chevy Malibu 1998 3.1 l engineDoes anybody knows how to change the transmission oil filter for a chevy Malibu 1998?there is a pan under your car at bottem of transmission. it is pretty big like 10 by 12 inches wide, and has around 14 bolts in it. take all those out and drain fluid into a bucket. now get transmission fluid and filter gasket set at autozone or pep boys or whatever. when you drop the transmission pan wipe the bottem of pan out and leave the magnets in there, they collect all the grazed metal. pull the two bolts out of the filter and replace it. now wipe down the pan and replace the gasket and put it back on and add bolts. then replace the transmission fluid. then on a level surface go through all the gears and with the car in park and running check the fluid to see if it is correct level. i usually do this once a year and the next year i have it flushed for like 100 bucks at mechani or jiffey lube. now by draining tranny and replacing the filter you are only changing half the fluid cause the other half is in the torque converter so thats why it is nice to flush it sometimes, hope this helps. on another part. you might need a second person putting the pan back on cause keeping the bolts lined up inside the gasket can be tricky.Does anybody knows how to change the transmission oil filter for a chevy Malibu 1998?what paxton said...but just to clarify....do NOT ever use any gasket sealant on transmission pan.....

and if u plan to keep this vehicle for a wile u might want to add a drain plug to the transmission pan to make future changes easier......part cost about 8 bucks at parts store and only takes a drill and about 5 min to install.......

How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?

i want to chagne the oil filter but i thought that when you take the oil filter off the oil starts to spill out??How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil? There is oil in the filter and that oil will spill when you remove it.Usually it is a good idea to change the oil and filter together. If you just change the filter, you will need to replace the oil that you remove with the filter.

Change the filter, start the car, and then turn off the engine. Wait a few minutes and check to oil level. Add oil as needed, you will most likely need to add up to a quart. How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?You can't!How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?collect the oil in a container, the re-add it after you install the new filter. How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?yes you can. You need a car jig. It connects to the car, you then rotate the car upside down and remove the filter. total cost 3K time 5 hours. How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?You will spill some from what is in the filter but the rest of the oil will stay in the engine. The filter will either hold 1/2 quart or at most a quart. How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?I concur with Michael S and Fire4511. Once your engine is off the oil pump stops working. Thereby you may unscrew the oil filter and replace it. Oil won't be gushing out like water thru a broken tap. The oil contained in the filter is all you'd lose. As prev stated, run your engine, switch off and check the oil level. Top up as required. How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?Just warm up your car. shut it off, remove the filter (it'll spill a little), wipe off the filter mating area on the block, pour some new oil into your new filter (it'll soak up into the fibers) until you can see that it's not being absorbed, put a dab of oil around the rubber ring, screw the filter on, start engine, top off oil as necessary.

The important thing is to add the oil to the filter before installing the filter. How do i change the oil filter without changing the oil?the only oil that will leak out is what,s in the filter. the most of the oil stays in the oil pan. just go ahead and change the filter then finish filling it back up.you probably won,t loose anymore then a quart.

The unit you're referring to is the oil cooler, and it is very highly likely held in place by either an allen bolt right up the center of it, or a thin nut screwed onto the threaded post onto which the oil filter screws, both of which are accessible after first removing the oil filter.

The seal is a rubber O ring.

    Regards

GeordieHow difficult is it to change the oil filter housing seel on a vectra 1800 eco engine 1999?If you are talking about the seal behind the lump of metal that the oil filter screws onto, then its dead easy to do. Make sure you have drained the engine oil first before loosening the bolts that hold it in place.

    Ja.

  • How much does it cost for a BMW oil change?

    Hello,

I was wondering how much does a oil change cost for a 2004 BMW 325Ci and am I able to take it somewhere other than the BMW dealership? Also how often are you supposed to get a oil change? The car currently has 41k miles on it.

Thank you!How much does it cost for a BMW oil change?depending its between $80 to the hundreds, BUT the oil change lasts you between 12,000-15,000 miles.your oil indicator will come on and tell you. You can go anywhere, but i prefer a BMW dealership, they know how to take care of the cars and won't try to scam you by saying %26quot; you know is about time for your air filter to be changed, we can do that for $30...%26quot;How much does it cost for a BMW oil change?wait till oil light comes on!?! How much does it cost for a BMW oil change?Yes you can take it to other places then the dillership. It costs about $70-90 because they use synthetic oil. You should get an oil change about every 5-7K miles to keep the car in good condition. Just make sure you take it to a good mechanic (not a lube PLACE, they will rip u off). to be on the safe side look at your car's owners manual to see what grade of oil you need.

I have a BMW 740i 2001 and i pay $90 for an oil change. (big engine)How much does it cost for a BMW oil change?yeah u could take it to a private shop but then its really not worth it because they dont charge much less than the dealer would i have a 4 door 323i and i pay around 80 for an oil chnge your car needs around 6.5 quarts of oil.. i would recommend taking it to the dealer because you wont save much money by going to a private shop.. and always use synthetic. How much does it cost for a BMW oil change?u need to take it to a dealership cost me about $130 but they go over th whole car and give u a detailed report of ur car, change once a yearHow much does it cost for a BMW oil change? The service indicator in the instrument cluster tells you when service is needed. It averages out, depending on your driving, to around 15,000 miles for an oil change, or every 12 months, whichever comes first.

If you intend to keep the car, it would be a sensible precaution to perform an interim oil change at around 7,500 miles.

Synthetic oil is recommended. Make sure it meets BMW's longlife requirement, in this case LL-04. BMW sells their own branded oil that meets this requirement, but so do others. Just read the bottle carefully or search online first!

You can take the car to the dealer, or a BMW-specific independent (find one near you at bimrs.org), or even do it yourself. Get a quality oil filter, and 7 quarts of oil, and have at it.How much does it cost for a BMW oil change? It depends on where ya take it. Expect to spend a couple of hundred for oil, filter and labor. The mechanic also has to reset the service indicator light. Use Castrol and OEM filter. You don't have to go to the dealer, but go to a service facility which specializes in BMWs.

Don't believe the hype of needing to change the oil every 2500 miles. The service indicator will tell you how often, based on your driving style.

If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford?

can you compare the price of the oil change and stuff like that with a bmw x5 with a ford windstar sel?If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford?My parents have a Windstar. The oil is scheduled to change every 3000 miles at $28 (filter incl). The X5 is every 15,000 at $115 (local dlr price) after the 4 yr/ 48k free maintenance, the X5 is cheaper $140 vs. $120. Since there is a huge savings over the first 48,000 miles, it will take the Ford a long time to break even!If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford?If you're buying a new BMW, ALL maintenance is included for free during the entire 4 year 50k mile warranty. Afterwards, it will be moderately expensive, expect at least $120-130 at the dealership, probably higher. Gotta pay to play.

But again, BMW gets you a year longer, and 14k extra miles on the warranty that Ford won't get. And in my opinion, you'll be treated better at the BMW dealer. If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford?I own both a Ford Expedition EB, and a BMW X5. Both are out of factory warranty, so I pay for all maintenance. The Ford truck is cheaper (oil, filter, air filter, Coil Packs, breaks...) than the X5. Also, remember that the BMW often require special tools (which cost a lot) when fixing/replacing some parts as compared to the Ford.If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford? It's cheaper, most oil filters for fords are 15-20 bucks, the bmw how ever looked anywhere from 5-15.If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford?If you buy it new from the dealership, maintenance is free up to 100k miles. If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford?same thing

How frequent I should change my car oil and fuel filter?
