How do I change my oil???

Okay, heres the deal, Im trying to learn how to work on cars and trucks, mostly cars for drag racing and drifting and I need to know how to change my oil and the filter? Also, I need to learn the names of engines and how they work and everything. Can you please please please help!?!??! Thank You Lots!

*CC*How do I change my oil???Directly underneath the engine, there is an oil pan with a screw plug. This plug allows the oil to drain out. The filter will be somewhere in the same vicinity and screwed to the engine block.

You can buy a manual at any auto parts store for 25 bucks and it will tell you how to basically tear down and rebuild the entire car step by step. It will also show basis steps for oil changes, brake changes, etc.How do I change my oil???yuo can get books on cars %26amp; truck from pep boys -- autozone mosely all parts stores. How do I change my oil???i suggest taking a basic automotive classHow do I change my oil???Well first you will need the right tools to change your oil. You will need a wrench or a ratchet and socket to unscrew the drain plug on the oil pan underneath the car. You will also need the proper container to drain the oil into. You may need to raise the car somehow so make sure you have the proper safety equipment as well.

You can unscrew the oil fill cap on top of the engine first to make the oil drain quicker. After that you unscrew the bolt on the oil pan in the bottom of the vehicle. Then you let the oil drain. once it has all drained out you can screw the bolt back in.

It's important not to screw the bolt in too tight. You don't want to mess up the threads or it will lead to an oil leak. just make sure it's tight enough.

Next the oil filter. It is usually somewhere near the oil pan. All you have to do is unscrew it but be careful because some oil will spill out if the filter is a horizontal filter. Sometimes they are pretty tight and you might need an oil filter wrench which is a special tool to remove oil filters.

Now if the oil filter goes in vertically you can put some oil inside the filter and if you want put a dab of oil around the top of the oil filter and then screw it back again. All you have to do is make sure it's hand tight and not loose at all.

Now you can put the new oil into the engine. Use a funnel to avoid spilling the oil all over the engine. It will say in your vehicle's manual how many quarts. Check the dipstick to double check and then turn on the engine for a few minutes and check for leaks. Then you will need to properly dispose of the used oil at an oil recycling center. How do I change my oil???well first you have to make sure the oil is warm, not hot like you just ran it, and not cold like its been sitting overnight. it flows better when warm. then you locate the oil drain plug on the oil pan. loosen it a couple turns, then put a drip pan under the plug. take the bolt out the rest of the way by hand. the oil will flow into the pan. you have to wait till it comes to a very slow drip, usually about 10 minutes. while you are waiting you need to inspect the plug for stripped threads and replace the washer if there is one on it. then put the plug back in. then locate the oil filter, about the sice of a soda can on cars. you might need to get a oil filter wrench to get it off but if you can reach it with your hand you should be fine. take it off and make sure you have the pan under it. before you put the new one in make sure you prime it by pouring a little new oil in the new filter. then ccheck your old filter to make sure the rubber ring gasket came off with it. sometimes the rubber ring stays attached to the car and you need to pull it off. then lube the rubber ring on the new filter by rubbing a little old oil on the ring, this makes it easier to tighten. then screw the new oil filter on. when you tighten it, only tighten it by hand, do not overtighten or you will strip the threads. usually one turn past snug is good. then fill your car with proper oil viscocity and amount. then start the car and let it run for a couple minutes. shut it off and let the oil settle for a few more minutes. check the level. as for getting into drifting and deagracing, they are two totally different things. buy a chilton or haynes manuel for your car and just start playing around. or buy a junk yard car for a couple hundred bucks and tear it apart ant you will learn alot. this will get you famaliar but you need to take some classes or hang out with gear heads to learn more. buy some magazines that have tech articles and read them. you could learn alot. other wise keep asking questions to mechanics and on here...i need more points! good luckHow do I change my oil???If you have a stock vehicle get the basic repair maunual at any parts store 20-30 bucks and follw the directions if you have a dry-sump oil system the filter is remote mounted by the oil resevoir This is used on race motors due to the g forces applied to the oil basic drag cars make up for it by using a deep sump oil pan and an extended pick up tube (all the oil runs to the back on launch) a drifter throws the oil from side to side in the slide To change the oil and filter on a dry sump just open the valve and pull the filter try the site below just type in the engine in search example LT1 good luck
