I have run my 17 horsepower riding mower for the first 5 hours. Now it's time to change the oil and filter too. What kind and how much oil do I need? The only ore I take exception to is Pennzoil, I have seen some Pretty sorry looking engines run on that stuff.

A good brand (Valvoline) for example semi synthetic oil would be a great choice.

For the filter , if you don't have the manuel you can take the name and part number from the old one and cross reference it I had to take mine with me and just start opening boxes until I found the one that worked. The main thing is the diameter, if it is a little longer it will just take a little more oil. Make sure you when you are refilling it with oil you do not overfill. Just add and check until you are done. Then start the motor and let it run a few min. shut it off and check again. You need SAE 30 oil. You can find it at Sears or other stores.
