Oil change on 1995 Kawasaki kz1000 police motorcycle.?

Can any of your guys tell me how to change oil and oil filter on my motorcycle. This is my first time trying to change oil on motorcycle. I don't want to take it to the shop because they might charge arm and leg for it. My motorcycle just came from the shop and they charged me $800 for some minor repairs. If you have any idea please let me how to do this. Thanks for your time and your help.Oil change on 1995 Kawasaki kz1000 police motorcycle.?The first thing you should do is beg, borrow, steal or buy a maintenance manual for your specific motorcycle. You won't find any info on the police gear, but you should be able to find a Clymer's or Haynes KZ1000 manual on eBay or Amazon.com, or you could order one from your local Kawasaki dealer.

Once you have the manual, read up on the procedures you want to do, and make sure you've got the correct tools and replacement parts you'll need, and go for it! It's not all that difficult, and you can save a considerable piece of spare change by doing it yourself.

Be sure and dispose of the used oil properly. It's considered to be toxic waste in some communities, and you can get in big ($$$) trouble if you just dump it in the trash. Check with your local auto parts store to see if they'll take in used oil.Oil change on 1995 Kawasaki kz1000 police motorcycle.?let the engine run warm then put the bike on centre stand,

When you take the cover and filter off, remember which way the metal cup goes.

This is the way the parts go - cover, spring, washer, filter, metal cup.

Don't forget about the %26quot;washer%26quot;! It sticks to the filter and people don't even realize it. If it's missing, buy one!

When you're ready to put the filter back on -

Install the bolt through the cover.

Install the spring.

Install the washer.

Lube the rubber parts of the oil filter and instead of pushing it onto the bolt, %26quot;screw it on%26quot;. That will prevent the rubber parts from breaking off the filter.

Install the cup.

Put a light coat of oil on the cover's o-ring.

Screw the entire assembly on %26quot;by hand%26quot;. Don't use a wrench!!!! until it's all the way on. It's very easy to strip the aluminum threads in the motor.

Have fun!
