How to change Oil in a dirtbike?
I own a bike and people say after they race they always change the oil in their bike. I have a 96 250 2 stroke how do you drain it, fill it, and where is the filter. About 3,000 miles (or about 5,000 KM) - or at least every 3 to 6 months.
A lot of it has to do with your driving style. If you do a lot of hwy driving, then you can probably with more mileage (but not more months). If you rarely drive, then you can probably go with more months
The stop and go traffic are probably the worst for engine life.

Has anyone ever changed the transmission oil filter on a 05 Nissan Sentra S 1.8?
I own this car and I tried changing it's automatic transmission oil filter. I was able to drain and remove the pan. I got all the bolts out of the filter, except for one. This one bolt was near the driver's side. I could spin it clockwise or counter-clock wise, but it didn't seem to loosen or tighten. I took it to a jiffy lube, and they too were unable to remove the filter, due to the same bolt. Can anyone tell me, how to remove this bolt?Has anyone ever changed the transmission oil filter on a 05 Nissan Sentra S 1.8?WOW. that bolt has a 10mm nut and washer on top of the valve body. Remove this plug to drain the engine oil onto a container, and re-install the drain plug after that
Re-fill with engine flushing oil, and drive around until the engine is warmed up to normal temperature. Drain off this engine flushing oil, as well, and fix the drain plug back (make sure there is a gasket, if not make a customised one)
Remove the engine oil filter and install new engine oil filter. Re-fill with new engine oil (remember to use the right viscosity grade)
Test drive the car until the engine is warmed up to normal temperature
Park and check for oil leakage below the car (any leakage need to be rectified immediately before any long distance driving) How to change car oil?1.Un-do sump plug on %26quot;The Sump%26quot;

3.Take washer from sump plug and replace with new 1 provided.

How long does synthetic oil last?
I put some synthetic oil in my car a while back and a family member that knows a lot about cars said it would be safe to go 10-15 thousand miles. Is this true? Don't I need to change my oil filter more often than that?How long does synthetic oil last?First and foremost, oil is cheap, engines are not. Never wait that long to change your oil. A big part of it is what kind of driving you do. IF you do alot of short trips and dont fully burn the condensation out of the oil, thats when you start running into problems. If your trips are only about 15 minutes then you should stick to 3000 miles but you could push it a little more if needed. I guess it depends on how long you keep the car. IF you are going to run it into the ground, change the oil every 3 to 4k miles or 4 months which ever comes first but if you are going to trade it off in a year or a couple years, dont worry about letting it get 5k or above miles on an oil change. The most important thing is just to make sure that you have the correct amount of oil in it and not low at all. How long does synthetic oil last?There is a lot of debate over the oil change interval, which is now up to 15,000. First there is no argument that a synthetic oil can run longer between oil changes. But how long do you keep a synthetic in you engine, there is no simple answer but if you ask me (and i do this for a living) i'll tell you 6,000miles. while letting your oil go too long can do serious damage, you can't hurt your motor by changing oil frequently. I know UI don't keep mine around either. You could try looking at the John Deere website or calling a reputable lawn mower repair place. If all else fails go for straight 30 it will say SAE 30 on the bottle.

I have a Acura 1993 Legend Suden 3.2 Liter, V6 . I have 190,000 miles on it. I normally put GTX 10W-40 oil and change every 3500 miles. i drive 2200 miles a month. This is pain ... to change oil every 2nd month. I heared that by switching to Synthetic Oil you dont need to change oil for longer period of time.
Now i am goin to buy a Synthtic oil; its not expesive just $10 more than normal oil around $25.
After how many Miles should i change the oil???????

How often to change oil on car that sits?
I live in SE Pa. I have a street/strip race car that sits most of the time. Probably only put about 1,200 miles on it in the last year. Most of the winter it sat. I have driven it a few times since it got nice out. The oil that is in it probably only has about 500 miles on it but its been in there all winter, since November. I dont trust these oil change places they always fill my car half a quart low and my car leaks at as it is. Plus they use cheap oil and filter. I have a minivan how can i get under there. Should i buy a jack and two stands? Is it worth it when it comes to the security factor associated with this? I changed the oil and filter on my 03 Tahoe but i dont know how to reset the light. That one on the right side of the steering wheel that looks like an upside down left turn arrow (the right side bottom button) is the feature select button. Press and hold that button down until the CHANGE OIL SOON light goes off. That will reset the engine oil life to 100%.

On Mercruser motors you'll notice a threaded hose connection on the dipstick. Other engines have a %26quot;drain tube%26quot; connected where the drain plug would be. Some depend on a hose small enough to go down the dip stick and into the oil sump. There are several common things. Run the engine until it's up to normal temp. before you change the oil. Keep rack of how high the oil was on the dip stick, and how much oil you actually pumped out. When you put the new oil in, put in say 3 qts. then check the dipstick often as you add more. Don't over fill and then check the engine after your first run. Remove and replace the filter but be careful that the old gasket comes off with the old filter. Compare the filter to make sure it's the same. Tighten it according to instructions and check it for leaks after running the engine. I recommend changing the oil once per season, at the end of the year. That way old contaminated oil doesn't sit in the engine for months during the off season. I just drove 10 miles after the oil change and the oil filter fell off, when i was on highway. I pulled-off %26amp; checked my engine to see that there was no oil left. My engine got locked out!
I reported to the Jiffy lube %26amp; customer service person says that they will take care of the repair. Means, they will replace my engine with a used engine.
What would be the best resolution at this point?
I do not want to let them put some engine in my car and escape from what they had done. How can i rely on a used engine that they put in? My car was a well maintained 2000 Toyota Corolla.
Should i go to small claims court %26amp; get a compensation for the car rather than going for replacing the engine? I dont know how it will work out and how long it would take. I dont have any contacts with a lawyer to take legal views etc.

Problem with an oil change on a Buell Blast 2001...?
I've never changed the oil on anything before so if there's something you're not thinking of because it would be too obvious, please still mention it.
I drained the oil (I was showed how by a mechanic at HD briefly), changed the oil filter, and added oil. However, I added a bit too much oil and decided to deal with this problem the next morning.
When I woke up, a forgot to drain the extra oil so I did that, however, I first attempted to start the bike (because I forgot) and it wouldn't start. I couldn't drain all the extra oil either, I'm guessing since the oil isn't warm, it's not coming out that quickly.
Anyway, my bike won't start anymore. I ONLY touched things to do with the oil. When I turn the bike to ON, the lights come on, but when I try to start it, the lights dim a bit and it whines and won't start. Usually the oil light comes on when it's not started, but now after attempting to start it, it permanently turns off until I turn the bike off and on again.

How often should synthetic oil be changed?
I've been using synthetic oil in an '07 Tacoma for 3,000 miles. I know that it does not break down as quickly as conventional oil and does not need to be changed as frequently. My plan is to change the oil filter every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. How often should you change the actual synthetic oil? I just got a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup truck. Runs great but of course I want to give it an oil change. Already changed all the filters (except oil filter).

I bought the car from a dealership 3 months ago. When I asked about the service I was told that it had been completely serviced before they sold it to me. I took it to get an oil change today where I learned that it had about 3 quarts of oil (4.5 filled it), an oil leak and that the oil filter had not been changed in almost a year. I also have pretty good evidence that the last oil change was probably in september of 2006. So, not only was I lied to (Typical car sales people), but there's no telling how long this has been the case, or what damage has been done while I drove thinking everything was fine. My first reaction is to be mad since I am paying my hard earned money for this thing. I want to return the car since I don't know what shape it is really in. I purchased it a few months ago as a work truck. It had 104,000 + miles on it when I bought it. I've replaced the air and oil filters, changed the oil, I also like using the Lucas fuel treatment cleaner in my fuel. I prefer to use 92 octane only because of the year and mileage. 2002 F250 Triton 5.4L v8 Oil Change and Maintenance Questions?
I just bought a used 2002 F250 XL 5.4L V8 4x4 with 186,000 miles. Unfortunately it did not come with owners manual and I have NEVER owned a truck before. The seller was a truck dealer so he does not know about any previous maintenance history of the truck. But I will try to get the previous owner's info and contact him to get more info on the truck. In the meantime, I would like to get some answers to the following questions:

How much over the oil fill mark is safe?
I just had my Lincol Zepheyr oil and filter changed, and when I went to a local parking lot I didnt notice any drips of oil under the car so I know the plug was tightened and the filter also, how ever when I pulled out the dip stick it was about a little over a quarter of an inch on the fill line, is this OK or should about a half quart taken out, I really dont like to go back to those quick change oil places? thanks if anyone knowsHow much over the oil fill mark is safe?It's difficult to say for sure if this is too high or not. The critical point is if it's high enough for the crankshaft to hit the oil as it rotates. If this happens, the oil will become aerated, and it's lubricating ability would be compromised. I don't think you have anything to worry about but make sure they stick closer to the actual capacity limit because with today's faster and hotter burning engines it may cause premature failure of seals down the road but i think you will be ok till next oil change. something that i do to make sure of good engine slip is to once a year add a quart of super slippery oil like slick 50 and this will at least give you an edge in the event you have low pressure oil situation. So don't worry so much it will be fine but just watch the place you have it done at If it does bother you it would take a moment for it to be sucked back out %26quot; the way they probably changed it anyway%26quot; at the place that did it. How different is it to change the oil of a desiel engine versus a gasoline engine? Also what weight oil should I use? It is best to prime the oil filter prior to installing on the vehicle, this also goes to gasoline engines (some designs do not allow this due to filter position).
As for oil and filter... follow the owners manual. Generally, most diesels use 15w40 oil, brand name filters are recommended.
A second option is to use synthetic diesel oil. It is about twice the cost, but you can double your oil change interval. If you stick to the OEM recommended interval... don't waste your money on synthetic fluids.
The last thing that no one yet mentioned... It is highly recommended you change you fuel filter on every oil change. Your fuel filter is just-as or more important then the engine oil change in a diesel motor. The fuel filter protects all your injection pump and injector components. DO NOT OVERLOOK THE FUEL FILTER, or you will have costly repairs.
Changing the fuel filter (depending on vehicle and engine setup) is usually a easier then the oil change. Simply spin off the filter, prime the new filter and reinstall. Changing the fuel filter (depending on vehicle and engine setup) is usually a easier then the oil change. Simply spin off the filter, prime the new filter and reinstall. I went for an oil change about 10 days ago. My oil light came on and my car stalled. When I had it towed to the nearest auto station, they told me my car did not have a filiter. What went wrong? My engine was damaged and now it is sitting in the shop where I had the oil change done. They told me that their insurance company has to come and investigate. Are they at fault? How does a filter just %26quot;fall off%26quot;? HOw can I get this resolved? Are they responsible for repairng/getting me a new engineIs it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? A) Defective filter
B) Wrong filter installed on the car
C) Improper installation
Unless you provided your own oil filter, the shop is going to be liable not only for the repair of your vehicle, but also for your costs for replacement transportation while the car is being repaired. All the insurance or the oil change shop is entitled to do is get a motor equivalent to what you had. So if you had 100 miles on it they will get an engine from a junk yard with 100k miles on it. If you want a brand new engine forget about it. You, unfortunately, may even have some out pocket expense. It is just the way it works with insurance companies. Just remember that mistakes happen and it is only a car. If they cooperate and give you a loaner until the car is fixed and do fix the car then that is all you can ask for really. It is unfortunate or you and the oil change shop. It will definitely hurt their reputation and also may hurt your wallet too.
